Re: Sky HDR
@rozel I would fall under that .. hands up never entered my mind to ask for a V2/3 box when negotiating my 18 month contract .. i agree that's when you have the leverage now they can tell you to take a hike , until conditions suit Sky.. my Sky box has been running hot and humming in standby the entire duration of ownership .. but now it's got to much for me.

Re: Sky HDR
@Roger+Peters I agree at this time it's not ideal for a mass swap out of hardware.. but those who are prepared to negotiate with Sky to secure a replacement for there V1 box may number a good deal less and could be accommodated.

Re: Sky HDR
Totally agree with you, I think I made the right decision to buy a good quality 4K tv without HDR, at least I still have 3D. Seems to me if you raise the backlight then it's the same as having HDR? Also this HLG debate, I was able to watch the WC in 4K which was very good by the end, not much different from Sky, or BT. And yes the lemur series is good.

Re: Sky HDR
@rozelwhy are you wishing a HDR surcharge on yourself?
It's a bit like wanting to be caned. The more you fellas entertain the idea the more you'll give Sky grounds to implement one so best leave it at that.

Re: Sky HDR
@CybrHwk , you are correct. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. I have the full picture from Sky in 2020. I cannot downgrade my package online as the links don't work, I can't watch some old documentaries in a HDR compatible format which has been around for years. I am sooooo glad I negotiated a good content deal (30% less). I find Netflix/Amazon/Disney content visual quality is better, still like Sky but for me other than Sport it's in runner up place

TBH I think Sky's issue ATM is they have a shortage of HDR compatible boxes as China is just getting back to production and those they do have are probably reserved for fault replacements, which I fully understand.
I'm not that desperate to watch a few nature programs in HDR which I couldn't care less about for the next few months.

Re: Sky HDR
@PBS83, Amazon have always stated they are interested in pushing their content forward particularly in the area of sport. Do you remember the games they put on?, others will also becoming to the market.

Re: Sky HDR
@bob1234 I was one who did not try to ask for a V2 box at contract renewal. But counter argument would be back then why would of I at the time. My Q box was working and I like many would not of known if it might of been compatible or not. It was speculation and only sky knew the answer.
As I said this is something sky should of anticipated as it had been asked and talked about for months on the forums. Sky knew there would be people wanting this so this was a very bad judgement on their part. They should of known better. Again who makes the bad decisions. Why should I have to wait. What do they consider reasonable amount of content before we can upgrade. Would I also be missing out of any future content in HLG as sky does rotate content and could of miss out on some future content in HDR.

Re: Sky HDR
@JOHNGALLEY , you are correct in what you say Sky knew what was going to happen. They do things like impact assessment, but they are not interested. Too many people guessing what the outcomes will be and when. Two new channels with HLG content, hohoho & this is the revolution. Believe in better, I do, Netflix, Amazon, Disney then Sky in that order..... the Sky fell in

Re: Sky HDR
yeah there's nothing groundbreaking here it's effectively a glorified 10hr + demo of Sky showing that its platform can indeed do HDR. With bush; and animals same thing you can see with those early HDR demos that appeared some years ago now
Whilst the wait goes on for the more interesting content, with the higher production values to be unlocked as some people don't have the right boxes which may be more frustrating than not being able to view what's currently been made available. And so we all wait together ..

Re: Sky HDR
- in the meantime if the Netflix app was HDR enabled it'd tide me over til then as having dig out an inferior remote to access it is a major gripe of mine.

Re: Sky HDR
@bob1234 So why did they not seek and/or demand a compatible box at the end of their contracts, this is what I asked. I know that everyone may not have been out of contract before today but a hell of a lot have been since at least the turn of the year and it was pretty obvious that the V1 boxes had a potential (and confirmed today) issue receiving HDR-HLG and, and this a big point, most if not all are enthusiasts and so should have been aware and more negotiating savvy when speaking with Sky at the end of their contracts.
