Scam

Hi guys, so it seems that my landline is calling an 08 number, It is a scam/fraud number and It's a premium number and it is charging me a lot. Never noticed it, thought due to the frequent calls abroad, the prices were fluctuating.

Now that I have noticed and paid attention to the bill, think I've been charged almost £500 in the last year or so.

Any chance I can get any of this back? Or is it too late?

I have told Action Fraud about this earlier on today and spoke to a customer adviser, who said they can't block this number and that I have to download some app which could block the number. But I have tried to download several, which doesn't allow me to input my landline to for it to block it. She also said, worse comes to worse, I will have to get a new number.

My SkyTalk Shield Doesn't seem to work either and when I try to activate it, it says, they encounter a problem and to try later etc.

What the best course of action I can take?

Any help/advice would be amazing and very much appreciated.

Thank you ever so much for taking the time to read this.

Kindest regards,

Jay

I don't know of any way your landline can automatically dial a number unless it's being dialled by a device attached to your phone line - typically a burglar alarm or care calling system.

For the Sky Talk Shield issue @JayJoseph I have escalated your post to Sky who will be in touch with you regarding this via a blue bubble which will appear at the bottom of this page.

This link explains how this works:

When the blue bubble does appear you have 48 hours to respond or it will be automatically closed.

Re: Scam

Hi I will keep an eye on that bubble. Thank you for doing that. Much apreciated.

In regards to the dialing. Its one of those really old phones, with the wires etc. I have no alarm systems at home of any sort other than 2 fire alarms or somthing attached to the phone.

They must be doing this in someway.

Last month, it says, I have made 14 or so calls in the period of 1 hour, calls ranging from 3secs to 2minutes.

Apreciate both of your prompt responses.

Hope I can sort this out soon, before more of this happens.

Regards Jay

Yes, if they're connected to the phone line, they would be a prime suspect. There's no app I know of that can  manage outgoing calls.
