Re: Quantum leap series 2 episode 8
Its a pretty poor excuse for omitting the episode. May as well take the entire series off the air then as they show episodes of racism. The point of the past is to move on and learn from it, not pretend it didn't exist because it offends. I personally would like to see an episode where someone with a learning disability comes out on top for a change

Your insensitivity does not make it OK.

Re: Quantum leap series 2 episode 8
It's so annoying! It goes against the whole sentiment of the show. It seems strange to pick on this one episode when others had equally outdated language. They should have just used a disclaimer like Disney have which states: "This program includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures. These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now. Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together."

Re: Quantum leap series 2 episode 8
without rewatching it, it seems like a strange decision. the whole point of QL and the Jimmy episode is to present but then challenge those negative stereotypes. Context is key here, if it was Sam Beckett using offensive terms that would be more understandable.
Unless there is a wider context of Sam/programme makers being patronising about Jimmy/Down's syndrome? But thats certainly not my recollection.

He does use an offensive term.

Re: Quantum leap series 2 episode 8
On this topic has anyone noticed in the episode 'Return of the evil leaper' in the first 5 minutes there is a word cut... he's mouth moves but it's cut out. I wonder what it was?

Re: Quantum leap series 2 episode 8
It's not just the episode that's missing that's annoying, it's also the fact a number of episodes have been cut. For example in the season 2 episode "so help me God" a character uses the 'n' word and Sam rebukes him by telling him never to use that word again in front of him, this has been cut on the version showing on Sky/SYFY. As for Jimmy they use the word **bleep** several times, though the episode itself is a positive one overall. I agree just stick a disclaimer at the start.....

You're telling other customers. It,would be more useful to pass your views to Sky's Viewer Relations team.

Re: Quantum leap series 2 episode 8
Yawn.
If this episode did not advocate for the understanding and acceptance of people with Downs Syndrome as being capable, valued and loved members of society then I don't know what did at that time.
This was the best episode exactly because of what the protagonist overcame and it's a shame it's being wokewashed.

Disney+ is showing The Muppet Show. Some episodes have some language that some may find offensive. Disny is showing these episodes with a disclaimer. Sky should do the samething. It's OK not to broadcast it. But at leas let it be available to download with the disclaimer.

Suggest it to Sky's Viewer Relations team.

People love using phrases like that when they can't quite grasp why something might be offensive to a segment of society. Its so lazy to drag out the word 'woke' when complaining that harmful things they used to be able to say or do can no longer be said or done. And it's interesting that it's never used by people who are actually the subject of offensive words or actions.

The way I look at it is that I am an adult. I should have the oppertunity to decide if I want to watch something that may or may not be offensive to some. With an appropriate warning, I can either watch it or delete it.

I don't believe that means Sky has the, right to broadcast material which might now be considered offensive. Clearly they took the editorial decision that that was the case here, which they're perfectly entitled to do as a responsible broadcaster.

I'm not saying Sky should broadcast QL S02E08. I'm sayingto have it available for download. That way we can decide if we wantto watch it or not. Disney+ is treating us like adults in the case of the Muppet Show. Sky could do the same thing.
The problem with broadcasting such content is that someone could tune in after the warning and end up being offended. So make it download only.
