Optical cable does not fit port on sky+ box

Hello, I have ordered a new soundbar and need to connect it to my Sky+ box. However  the cables I have  - one I already had - and the cable that came with the siundbar do not fit into the port. Clear rubber cap removed so it's not that. Is the Sky+ box optical port standard size - appears not?

@AnnieB42  The optical ports on all devices that have them use an agreed standard size.   If you could post a photo of the back of your Sky+ box we can advise you better.

@AnnieB42 Have you removed the black plastic plug out of the sky boxes socket that protects it from dust when not in use?

It's a standard size, but I've found that some cables fit better than others - a cabling variation, rather than a socket issue.  Some fit loosely and you feel only a slight 'click' when the cable is connected, whereas there's a definite 'snap' to others, if you see what I mean. Try a different make cable (and be sure to correctly orientate it when you fit it).

Thank you so much. I didn't realise there is plastic plug (plastic cover with screw, yes, which I have removed). However, I'm simply unable to remove plastic plug - think it's jammed. Will have to send soundbar back and put up with rubbish sound from TV.
