Re: Number of new Movies reduced
So this is the latest I got from Sky which basically says there will be a new preier 3 times a week and no reduction in cost I think I will be ringing to cancel:
Thanks for taking the time to get in touch with us again about Sky Cinema.
Although we are no longer offering a 'new premiere everyday' we can now focus on offering more Sky Originals and higher grade studio titles each week.
In addition we are offering even more returning titles to Sky Cinema and we still have over 1,300 movies available to watch On Demand.
Each week we will have a new premiere on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Unfortunately we wont be offering any reductions in our Sky Cinema price as we feel moving forward the quality of our products is actually better. If you no longer want to subscribe to this package you can downgrade if you wish by contacting our Customer Service team on 0333 7591 018.

Like any others working with limited budget, it's a mixed bag: they don't exactly have MCU-category resources to work with.
- Save The Cinema: Samantha Morton, Jonathan Pryce, Adeel Akhtar, Susan Wokoma and Tom Felton star in this new British film based on true events. Liz Evans makes it her mission to stop her local cinema from being demolished. - Not watched.
- The United States v Billie Holiday: In the 1940’s, the US government targeted beloved jazz icon Billie Holiday as part of their war on drugs, to prevent her from performing her heart-wrenching ballad “Strange Fruit,” a defiant cry against lynching. Directed by Lee Daniels, written by Suzan-Lori Parks and starring Andra Day. - Good.
- A Boy Called Christmas: An ordinary young boy called Nikolas sets out on an ex-traordinary adventure into the snowy north in search of his father who is on a quest to discover the fabled village of the elves, Elfhelm. Based on the bestselling book by Matt Haig, starring Jim Broadbent, Maggie Smith, Kristen Wiig, Sally Hawkins and Toby Jones, produced by Blueprint Pictures and StudioCanal and directed by Gil Kenan. - Good.
- Kindred: A psychological thriller about a vulnerable mother-to-be who is taken in by her recently deceased boyfriend’s mother and stepson, who seem increasingly obsessed with her every move. Starring Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve), Tamara Lawrence (The Long Song) and Jack Lowden (Mary Queen of Scots, Dunkirk). - Not watched.
- Creation Stories: Written by Irvine Welsh and Dean Cavanagh, Creation Stories charts the true story of the rise and fall of Creation Records and its infamous founder Alan McGee, who signed generation-defining bands such as Oasis and Primal Scream. - Good.
- Breaking News in Yuba County: A dark and twisted comedy that explores the outrageous lengths some people will go to in order to garner some much-desired attention. Starring Allison Janney, Mila Kunis and Awkwafina. - Not Watched.
- Six Minutes to Midnight: Emmy Award ® winner Eddie Izzard and Academy Award® winner Judi Dench battle to protect a group of students from the grip of Hitler in this World War II thriller. - Good.
- The Comeback Trail: Two movie producers who owe money to the mob set up their aging movie star for an insurance scam to try and save themselves. Starring Robert DeNiro, Morgan Freeman, Tommy Lee Jones and Zach Braff. - Good.
- Antebellum: A terrifying new thriller with a kiss of horror from the producer of the acclaimed films Get Out and Us, starring Janelle Monáe. - Not watched.
- The Glorias: The Glorias is the female led story of feminist icon Gloria Steinem; known for her world-shaping activism, guidance of the revolutionary women’s movement, and writing that has impacted generations. Written and directed by Julie Taymor. - Good.
- Every Breath You Take: Academy Award-winning actor Casey Affleck stars as a psychiatrist who finds his life in turmoil following the sudden suicide of his patient. When he invites his patient’s surviving brother (Sam Claflin) into his home to meet his wife (Michelle Monaghan) and daughter, his family life and career are suddenly torn apart. - Not watched.
- Extinct Op and Ed are two adorable donut-shaped animals -- FLUMMELS -- who accidentally time-travel from 1835 to modern-day Shanghai. Starring Rachel Bloom, Adam Devin and Ken Jeong. - Good.
- Monster Family 2 To free Baba Yaga and Renfield from the clutches of Monster Hunter Mila Starr, the Wishbone Family once more transforms into a Vampire, Frankenstein's Monster, a Mummy and a Werewolf. Starring Jason Isaacs, Emily Watson and Nick Frost. - Good.
- The Secrets We Keep In post-WWII America, a woman rebuilding her life in the suburbs with her husband kidnaps her neighbour and seeks vengeance for the heinous war crimes she believes he committed against her. Starring Noomi Rapace, Chris Messina and Joel Kinnaman. - So-So.
- Jolt A female driven action-comedy that follows Lindy (Kate Beckinsale), a bouncer with a murderous anger management problem that she controls with the help of an electrode-lined vest to shock herself back into normalcy whenever she feels homicidal. Starring Stanley Tucci and Laverne Cox. - Not watched.
Most of the movies from this list that I have watched is good. So I don't see a problem with Sky Originals overall. Then again, how many Hollywood movies are so-so or not good?

Re: Number of new Movies reduced
I can understand some people being annoyed by the changes from Sky, possibly more how they sort of sneaked out the change but for me it makes zero difference. A premiere a day is pointless IMO in low quality movies and honestly the original strategy falls into the same category for me. The loss of Disney is a far more serious blow, however there are still good films on the service regularly and some good movies on the way. A film service will always be hostage to what's actually made. The addition of Paramount plus will keep the value offering fine for some time yet, especially if you can get Cinema on a discount deal.

Re: Number of new Movies reduced
I'm assuming that when Paramount+ launches in the Spring it will be free to Sky Cinema users because in part, Sky Cinema will essentially lose Paramount's movies. I understand the reduction in new movies which probably has as much to do with COVID backlog as much as anything else, but looking at their line up for January, it's still very sparse plus next week for example there are only 2 premieres.

Upon launch, Sky Cinema subscribers will get the bonus of Paramount+ included at no additional cost, providing access to two fantastic services side by side with more than 10,000 hours of extra content for one affordable price. As part of this partnership, Paramount Pictures’ feature films will remain available on Sky Cinema in the UK and will join Sky Cinema in Germany and Italy in 2022. All other Sky customers will be able to subscribe to Paramount+ as an add-on to their account.

No, the press release for Paramount Plus did confirm that their titles are staying on Sky as well (and moving to Sky in Germany and Italy too) - I guess they'll just be shared between the two platforms...

Still in search of a great signature! I’ll get there one day!

Re: Number of new Movies reduced
I have to say I am not that impressed with the offerings so far. My contract is up for renewal at end of the month and unless they offer me a substantial discount I will be dropping Sky movies. The same goes for Sky sports - that no longer provides value for money as far as I am concerned.

SkyPremierHD. (Noo sky no.)
After see that they are taking away new one a week in faver of sky originals & studio titles, I was horrified and saddend & left wondering is even worth still paying for movie channels anymore.? In my opinion this is a terrible decision that I am hoping they change there minds over although know that very unlikely.
Worse there own made (Not sure what mean by studio titles.?) Of all made only one found good rest honesty found just boring & waist of time sorry but did.
Also about Paramount+ honestly can't say anything about it as all heard on it will be Picard S2.
And just want to say that yes one main reason stayed with sky movies is because of new releases they did, and I also enjoyed most if them I also like subtitled movies when good film's as some have been.
As for Picard season,2 hope in HD and that they fix what did to picard in season,1. & I'll leave it there on that for now.

Re: Number of new Movies reduced
I guess this is no way that Sky are going to reduce their prices for reducing the number of film premieres they will show - despite originally marketing the service as showing a new premiere every day. Interesting that they think this is compensated for by Sky originals, which inthe main are viewed (Rotten Tomatoes / IMDb) as pretty weak. Interested also in how they believe the quality of their premieres will improve - in what way can the wyskity alter ie better than the Sky premieres we used to get? Makes no sense.

Well as I stated in the thread over in the Sky Q forum, one thing to remember is that Sky will have a wealth of data in terms of what's viewed, what's not, how many of those 7 movies a week get watched, how many don't...
I would guess moving that financial resource used for cheap landfill indie movies to original titles they can keep exclusively for the longer term means more titles that specifically drive customer engagement (based on genre or star presence or specific audiences) and as a result they can get in earlier on projects in either at the acquisition or production stage... and I would guess that Sky think they are more likely to drive customer engagement with a brand new Liam Neeson actioner than 4/5 unknown indie titles to help pad out the month.
Still in search of a great signature! I’ll get there one day!

@Conner. I believe Picard S2 is staying on Amazon Prime for now, it may change after this season, same for Lower Decks.

Re: Number of new Movies reduced
Well if they are going for quality and "Monster Hunter" the latest film available is an example of quality I need a new dictionary.
I hope someone likes it but for me it is one of the worst films I have seen.

Re: Number of new Movies reduced
It certainly wasn't great. That said as long as they put on 3 cinema release movies per week, I'd be reasonably satisfied - they can't all be masterpieces. It is after all pretty rare for the week's new cinema openings to not feature a 'Monster Hunter'. That said this weekend's quality premieres are French Exit starring Michelle Pfeiffer which I'm looking forward to, but One Shot, a straight to video Navy Seals thing - 'quality'?

Re: Number of new Movies reduced
Yes it was excellent, even talk of a Oscar nomination for Anne Dowd, although I'll believe it when I see it. To be clear, whilst I admire Sky for making their own movies, generally speaking their output has to date been pretty meh and they need to up their game. I hope it gets to a point where the quality is more aligned with Mass than Save the Cinema and supported by 2 decent cinema release premieres a week.
