New Sky Q Install Questions

Hi all,

After receving lots of great advice on here, I have finally got Sky Q fitted today.

Just a few questions if I may:

I have got the ultimate pack UHD, HD Netflix etc.

Have cabled directly to my TV using HDMI and Optical for sound.

How do I know if I am watching UHD?  If I play my Xbox I get a icon come up on my TV's display saying HDR.  I have downloaded some HDR content on Sky but my TV is not telling me that it is HDR?

Also I don't have Sports but is Eurosports included in the normal package?  I clicked on but it says I do no have subscription?

I have the 2TB box with external power supply.

Thank you guys!

Re: New Sky Q Install Questions

Have you set up 2160 as the resolution in the settings on your Sky Q box?

Eurosports should be part of the HD pack as far as I see.

And there should be something in the settings to check if your TV is HDR compatible.  I last had the UHD pack a few years ago, so I don't know whether the TV will prompt that HDR is active or not.

@CatManDoYou must have your box set to UHD resolution otherwise you would not be able to watch HDR downloads.

You have a V2 box which us compatible with HDR.

It is possibly your TV settings, sometimes the HDMI input settings need changing for HDR.

Post your TV make and model and no doubt someone will be able to help.

In all probability everything is working just your TV does not display the information, mine is a Sony and gives no clue if I am watching HDR or not.

Re: New Sky Q Install Questions

Thanks guys.  My TV is an LG 55SK85000PLA.

The HDMI Port itself has HDMI turned on in the settings.

Like I said if I am using HDR content on Xbox my TV tells me, but on Sky Q nothing so far.

Re: New Sky Q Install Questions

I've just spoken to Sky on live chat and they are going to resend the UHD package to my box and asked me to try later.

@CatManDoIf the HDMI inputs have individual settings check "Deep colour" is on. You may only be able to do this while watching from the Q box.

Re: New Sky Q Install Questions

Are you sure you're watching HDR content as not all UHD content on Sky is HDR.

Watching and setting up Sky Q in HDR | Sky Help | Sky.com

Watching shows in HDR

It’s never been easier to find HDR content. All HDR capable on demand content is now signposted with a “HDR” icon.

At the moment you can watch the following in HDR:

  • Some Sky Nature shows
  • A selection of Sky Originals
  • A selection of blockbuster movies
  • Disney+
  • Netflix

You don’t need to do anything special to watch in HDR. As long as your box is set up for UHD (10-bit) and your TV has the HDR setting switched on (check your TV’s manual or manufacturer’s website for help doing this), available shows and movies will automatically play in HDR.

hi @CatManDo I know you said you have downloded some HDR material but can I suggest you double check that you have downloaded the HDR versions as I beleive there are usally a UHD (SDR) version and a HDR specific version (I don;t have an HDR box to know for myself)

BTW I believe there was a problem with the Eurosport UHD feed earlier prompting for a subscription when it shouldn't have done but I ebelive that should now be fixed, so it might be worth trying that again

Re: New Sky Q Install Questions

Hi all,

Thanks so much for all your replies.

Whatever Sky did with Eurosports has worked and my TV does indeed show HDR!

I just need to find some more content now, tried Brittannia but that didn't show as HDR.

The only thing I seem to be missing from old Sky at the moment, is the ability to press the up directional arrow on the remote to flick through channels and then select the one I want to watch.

Press the info (i) button to get info on the current channel - you can then use the up / down arrows to go through other channels (& get a mini preview if you don't have the settings set to record 6 channels)  - BTW worth setting up favourite channels for doing this (as well as seeing listings together)

You can also scroll right after using the info button info to see programmes on later

BTW I should add if you don't press the info button first, then using the right hand arrow brings up info  & mini screen  for the last channel used (providing it was viewed for a few seconds - not quite sure how many) .

This can also be used when watching recordings
