Yes, please, SKY, supply a package for those of use who no longer wish to watch BBC, and wish to know that they are not breaking the law by not buying a licence.

In fact, does simply having the MEANS to watch live TV mean that a licence is required?

Special SKY package for non licence payers would be brilliant.

No, because anyone with a mobile phone, PC, Games Console, etc... have the ability to watch stuff live but still don;t require a TV TAX if they follow the rules

As I understand it, you're required to have a TV License if you watch any live channel, not just BBC.

I'm not sure why a package aimed at non-license holders would be of value, unless it was pitched at a lower price, which would be highly unlikely, knowing Sky as I do!

So then I thought, there are two ways Sky can take advantage of this idiotic policy to gain more subscribers…

By 'idiotic policy', you presumably mean the UK laws intended to facilitate public service broadcasting, something that every government, no matter what political persuasion, has sought to do for 97 years?

It is an idiotic policy. I would refuse to pay anyone for BBC if I was not having anything to do with BBC.  It is very idiotic for me to pay a license fee to be able to record or watch programs from channels that are not BBC.

Re: New Package That Requires NO TV Licence

Would you still haveto pay a TV license because when you turn on the Sky box, it's receiving the TV channel in the display on the upper right of the screen and it's too easy to end up with the TV channel on screen?

On Sky+ just disable the mini TV 🙂

On Sky Q you can just set it to one of the help channels and leave it there.

I think you'll find they would still class that as a live broadcast 😞 Tune to a channel you don't subscribe to or maybe a channel that does not exist ie 100, 200m 300 etc...

That is a rather good idea.

Whenever I see a licence fee discussion I always think of this.

Whenever I see a TV licence discussion, I find it staggering how ill-informed people are, especially those who don't realise that it applies to any live content on Prime Video, YouTube and any other platform, and isn't just a BBC thing....

Re: New Package That Requires NO TV Licence

I think it's you who are uninformed, Rhonny. Amazon Prime, YouTube, Netflix and Disney+ don't have ANY live content. They are on-demand services.

When I cancelled my TV licence I asked them specifically, if can I watch those platforms without a TV licence and they said yes.

You can't watch BBC live or on catch-up on iPlayer.

You can't watch ITV, C4, C5, etc. live, but you CAN watch them on catch-up without a licence.

Know your rights.

YouTube has plenty of live broadcasts (Streams) and is explicitly mentioned on the TVL website

Re: New Package That Requires NO TV Licence

I'm talking about the YouTube TV channel - the one that used to show Cobra Kai - NOT the website.

It doesn't count as a national broadcaster.

The TVL website does not specify a subsection of YouTube ANY live stream consumed on the entire YouTube platform needs a TV licence
