Why take a month?
My broadband contract ended on the 29th July but on August 8th you took a payment for another month's broadband , why? I cannot now receive this as a refund for another month I guess.
I also took out a £1 PAYG SIM.How do I now cancel this as I do not agree with the policies in regards to your billing? I want pay this off straight away.

The bill was already generated (as normal, including the month in advance) before your service ceased. I presume you've actually cancelled as the contract does not end until you do (it just reverts to full price).

Call Sky within the cooling off period to cancel it.

You are not talking to Sky but to other customers but we can say that the 8th August bill would have been created 14 days earlier on about 24th July so when you were still a customer as billing doesn't stop if you had already put in either a cancellation request or placed an order with another supplier.
If you post back on 8th September when the next bill which will show this credit we can arrange some help via here to get ire refunded.

Sky doesn't do PAYG sims so if you have activated it to see if they will let you cancel it you will need to call them on 150.
