Also I am legally trained in this and would never post anything that wasn't the maw and I'm Legislation

If there were no BBC, the government would either end the licence system or redesign it — ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5 would not start charging you directly.

In short: you pay the licence fee because the law mandates it to fund the BBC. Without the BBC, the legal basis would likely vanish.

The way everyone came back at em, unless you can prove I'm the legislation I'm wrong song respond.

Under Section 363 on the communication act

Section 365 mandates that the fee for a TV Licence must be paid to the BBC once required for use

Also BBC I player since 2016 is now also included not for watching live for having a account and watching anything so there you go

So everyone is wrong, why because a TV licence is for live TV

Everyone on this thread has been saying that the TV license is required if you watch any live TV; this doesn't just cover watching BBC channels live.

@Dionne200881 I'd suggest you read https://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one/topics/what-does-your-tv-licence-cover?

Yes, the money gained from the licence fee is used to fund the BBC ( as it's the national broadcaster), but it doesn't mean that if you don't watch the BBC but only watch other live broadcasting content, you don't need to pay for it. If the license fee were to disappear, it would likely be replaced with another tax used to fund the national broadcaster.

@Dionne200881 You can't watch any live TV, regardless of channel or any content on iPlayer without a licence. You need to do better research I think!

@Dionne200881 So, which part of my reply was wrong exactly?

@Dionne200881 Where did you get your legal training? I ask as you may want to look at getting a refund.

Also get rid of TV and use netflix or prime or Disney on a fire stick and also get rid of TV licence as its only needed for live BBC1 channel, you can still watch shows and boxers or dramas on BBC1 on fire stick as long as its not live

Do I need a TV Licence if I only ever watch on demand services (e.g. catch up TV)?

You don’t need a licence if you only ever watch on demand or catch up programmes on services other than BBC iPlayer (and you also never watch TV channels on any TV service, watch live TV on streaming services, or use BBC iPlayer*).

This includes recording and downloading. On any device.

So there I've provided proof you are wrong with the information you have posted, all while you claim to be legally trained in this matter.

That's not generally going to be the case: presumably some element of your subscription is leaving a discounted minimum term.

Sky Group is a division of the Comcast Corporation: unless Comcast choose to divest it (as they have just done with Sky Deutschland) then that's simply not an option.

Have a email from Sky saying prices are rising.I can't copy and paste it as don't think I allowed to do that.

Just checked offer suppose to end 28th of Feb 2027 as far as I aware you can still get prices rising even if you get a discount.

@Totalwar2

That suggests you renegotiated a discount in February 2025. In those circumstances the usual April price increase is deferred for a few months so that's likely the reason you are seeing the increase in another couple of months.

@Totalwar2 looks like you may have been price protected from the April increase, hence the delayed increase in August?

@Totalwar2

You're still going to get the price increase. You'll then get another in April 2026.
