Was this a scam?

I have just received a phone call purpoting to come from Sky. They offered a discount and wanted my email address. Odd, because I have lots of communications from Sky and they have my email address. The caller said they would put my account on hold until I had accepted the discount, which would be sent via email and post. I ended the call. Was this a scam or have I passed up a fantastic discount?

It sounds from what you have said some sort of scam as I can't see any reason why an account would be put on hold and also as far as known Sky are not know to make random calls offering large discounts.

Sky don't put accounts on hold. That would always be a red flag. Hopefully you didn't divulge any account information.

If you look at you details in the my Sky app you can see that Sky already have your email address an if it was genuine from Sky the person would have that information on there screen. It sounds like a scam for me. If you want to double check check you could always give Sky a ring and ask.

Making threats to put time pressure on a prospective victim so that they are more likely to make poor decisions is absolutely the hallmark of a scam
