Security verification using David's dodgy website

I had over an hour wasted on Sky chat today.

I contacted them to discuss the April price increases, and how this was another example of their contract allowing them to make arbiritary chnages whereas we customer get penalised if we want to back out.

I didn't get very far because they presented me with link that started z2.idavid.liveperson.net - who is this David? I thought.

The link looks like one of those spam/phsihhing links you get in email.

I queried this and kept asking for an alterntive method. I got fed up of reading "I understand your conecrns ...".

I asked for a callback but they suggested I ring instead, and we all know that means a lengthy game of selecting various options until you get through to a human.

The AI chat bot is useless and horribly frustrating.

End result was I gave up.

Why does a multi billion pound company need an anonymnoius 3rd party we have no direct lionks with to verify we are its customer?

Whats is to stop that 3rd party (doubtless cloud based, multi tenanted serving not just sky) selling or sharing our data to further parties? Would sky be able to provide  infomation exactly what info has been passed on down the whole chain of parties if one submitted a FOI?

What is an alternative that is simple and does not involve this nonsense?

I will email them instead with my compalint about pricing ... if only I could find the email address.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

Perhaps note that Freedom of Information  applies to government and public sector bodies rather than private companies (unless these are directly contracted for public sector work)

I suspect you are thinking of a Subject Access Request under the Data Protection Act.

Re: Security verification using David's dodgy website

I completely agree, z2.idavid is a horrendously bad url for sky to use to verify people with personal details, I think i'd rather share the information through the live chat that this scummy sounding url
