Scam call?

Just taken a call from [removed]. He claimed to be calling from Sky regarding the annual price increase and could help me lower my bill. He knew my full name and, as I've recently received a notice to increase my bill (even though I haven't been with Sky for 12 months yet) though it was legit. He asked me to conmfirm my name, first line of my address and post code, which I did. He then asked if I remembered my Sky 'ruby' password. When I said I did not (I genuinley didn't know what he was on about) he laughed and hung up.

Is this a genuine, poor call from Sky customer services or, as I'm inclined to suspect, a scam call?

Of course any number can be spoofed.

🔹

The annual price increase happens in April every year.

🔹

With any calls from 'Sky' (especially unexpected calls) if the caller asks for your previously agreed telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which I would expect a genuine Sky agent to do) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it'l be a scam call.

If genuine they'd ask for your telephone password not your account password, to test if they're genuine it's advised to give them incorrect details - if they say that fine then they're scammers but a genuine call would says the work is incorrect.
If you can't remember setting up a telephone password then they can go through other means to verify.
