Left sky but still asking for payment

I left sky on 6th June. Emails were sent from my new provider informing them .

Moved to new provider on 2nd July.

I've now had an email from sky that I'm due them a payment.

Tried contacting sky but I'm only getting a message of i need to set up a new payment details.

Can't actually get to speak to anyone.

What Sky services did you have? If TV then another provider cannot cancel that, they can only cancel phone and broadband as part of the broadband one touching switching system the ISPs use.

@Taffy71

Do you transfer broadband to your new provider because they can only do this and not other services like TV of which you would need to give Sky 31 days notice to cancel it so could this be what has happened here ?

Cancelling your payment method will also mean that any outstanding credit will have to be refunded via a cheque and this can take quiet a while to be sent to you.

The sales guy from my new provider was with me when all emails were sent to sky and it was to cancel everything.  Even got reply emails from sky acknowledging I was leaving.

That would be for broadband services only.

You need to proactively contact Sky and give 31 days to cancel tv so that would mean your TV services aren't cancelled and Sky are correct to continue charging you.

Hi @Taffy71   Emails? Do you mean on-line forms as Sky don't accept emails as a means of communication, because it requires an interactive process to prove your identity.

@Taffy71

As stated above by myself and @MarkGoldsmith you new provider can not cancel Sky TV, so if they told you they could then they are incorrect as the OFCOM switching service only covers broadband as you can see via their website:

https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-and-broadband/switching-provider/switching-broadband-provider

So what you need to do is to restore your payment method then call Sky to give them 31 days notice to cancel your Sky TV. Then put in a complaint with your new provider.

As above, if you had TV services with Sky then you still have TV services with Sky.  You may wish to complain to your new provider if they said they could cancel your TV contract...

As it stands you'd have to pay the outstanding balance, set up a continuous payment method and call Sky to give 31 days notice to cancel.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers
