I changed my direct debit date and you have taken it out too soon

Hi. I phoned sky yesterday to change my direct debit date to the 1st of the month. When I got up this morning and went onto online banking I noticed that the payment had gone out of my bank!

So I called sky AGAIN this morning and the operator advised that a direct debit cannot be changed. I challenged that and then was told that it takes 7 days for the change to go live!

Does anyone know the truth of the matter please??!!

@jossyj1712

Bills are generated 14 days before the payment date so the one paid today is correct. Also, if you're a new customer you have to pay two bills before you can change the date to one more convenient.

@jossyj1712 It can take upto 14 days for a direct debit change of date to be fully processed, so if you made the date change less than 14 days before it was due it would only take effect from the following bill.

If you are a new customer then you can't change the date until 2 bills have been paid.

If your payment come out today then it was definitely too late to change it yesterday (as it had already been requested from your bank).

If your payment date has now been updated then it will apply for your next payment - but note that changing the date doesn't simply change the date.  It completely recalculates your bill and the next payment may be higher or lower.  (Probably slightly lower if  the next payment is taken 1 October, or higher if taken 1 November)
