Downgrade Charge.

Just tried to give notice to cancel my Sky Sports contract, and they want to charge me a £60 premium downgrade fee.

I'm giving 90 days notice up to the end of the contract, so there should not be any charge.

Was advised to call back 31 days before the end of the contract, and try again.

Ridiculous!

Yup, the contact allows such a charge for removing a premium channel.  (My emphasis)

"If changing your option will reduce your payment to us you need to give us at least 31 days’ notice
unless you are changing from a Sky premium rolling pack to a Sky premium contract pack. We may
charge a reasonable administration fee for making any changes to your option which we will let you
know about in advance."

Surely not if I'm out of contract?

@jaswebb1 If you are getting any service from Sky then you are not out of contract, you may be outside of a minimu term but that will be all.

Being "in contract" just means you are within a minimum term agreement for the services ( usually at a discount). When that expires your contract doesn't end as that would terminate your services on that date, instead you move from a minimum term to a 31 day rolling contract at higher prices which still requires 31 days to cancel.

Yes.  The contract still applies to you.  (You are always governed by a contract - the term 'in contract' simply refers to discounts.  Personally it's a silly phrase but industry standard)
