Direct Debit taken after contract cancelled – refund possible?

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can advise me. We recently moved out of the UK and cancelled our Sky subscription before leaving. Unfortunately, I forgot to cancel the Direct Debit, and a payment was taken for the month after the contract had already been terminated.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is Sky usually willing to issue a refund in this situation, or am I expected to go through my bank to claim it back via the Direct Debit Guarantee?

I've contacted support but wanted to see if anyone has had a similar experience and how it was resolved.

Thanks in advance!

@AresP

Did you have an email acknowledgment of the cancellation so has it now been cancelled ?

Do you see a credit on your account due to this overpayment because if you do we can arrange some help for you via here to get this refunded back to you but you do need to leave the direct debit in place for this to happen.

It's inevitable as you have to give 31 days notice to cancel, and you're billed as normal during your notice period. Sky will refund any overpayment beyond the date your services actually ended.
