Cancel sky q

Hi I recently cancelled my sky q on the my sky app and returned my equipment as per the instructions I now find that I'm still in contact for my tv subscription and talk package untill 2028 sky are now saying I can't cancel until the contract end date and if I want to get out of contract then I have to pay over 500 pounds any advice on this please

The latest T’s and C’s explicitly state you can’t cancel when still in a minimum term deal unless Sky agree. If they agree you’ll have to pay the remainder of your discounted term.

What did you actually cancel on the app ?

When did this contract starts as they are usually for 24 months so it must have started earlier this year if you are in contract until 2028 ?

You said you cancelled did you get  email confirming your cancellation and giving you a end date, How and when did send the equipment back as that not normally returned until the end of  31 dy notice period  when sky then send you packaging and a return label to do so.

But did actually get confirmation from Sky that you subscription would be cancelled.

Yes I received the package and labels from sky and returned it as per instructions I have a receipt for proof postage I have had a bill in for 5.20 which I thought was just an outstanding balance But I've now had a message saying I have an outstanding payment

Did you cancel because of April price increase if so the only way you could cancel without a termination was following the instructions and ringing the number on notification email or letter within 30 days period. As you were still in minium term I don't think you could have been done on the app in your case.
