Call from Sky about changing package

I've had my Sky account for over 20 years but haven't even watched it at all for the last year or so. Those who did previously use it most  have moved out of the home.

So I get a call from a Sky rep wanting to discuss my package and whether she could help me get the best value etc.

I was totally polite and all I said was "It's funny you called as I was going to call you guys soon to cancel the contract"

Next thing, just cuts the phone call dead. Not even a word said. 🙂

Great customer service!

Thrrr is a chance that call wasn't from Sky but it instead a scammer who wants to get access to your account details so they can order phones and tablets via it. The fact they ended the call after you said you were cancelling does suggest that this might not have been from Sky.

@Doon24 that sounds like the usual patter from a scammer.

I agree. Scam written all over it.

Regarding cancellation …

To cancel all your TV subscription, if you’re out of contract you’ll need to give Sky the required 31 days notice. The latest T’s and C’s explicitly state you can’t cancel when still in a minimum term deal unless Sky agree. If they agree you’ll have to pay the remainder of your discounted term.

Select ‘Need more help’ at the bottom of the following link which will lead to contact details.
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/cancel-sky-tv#contact-leave
(Make sure the flag in the bottom right corner is the correct one ie; UK or ROI).
UK customer ~ The link may include an email link and also a Message Us option (which is normally available between 9am and 7.30pm).
ROI customer ~ it’s only by calling Sky Ireland or writing in.

If you successfully cancel you should receive an acknowledgment email from Sky.

If you are cancelling Sky Q, return packaging will be sent out near the end of your notice period. It’s important that you obtain proof of posting and keep it safe and indefinitely.

Re: Call from Sky about changing package

I'm familiar with scammers but never has one asked for me by name. The telephone number it came from is 0800 7xxxxxx. Which I've also checked right now and appears to be legit Sky.

Unfortunately even that number can be spoofed.

With any unexpected calls from Sky if the caller asks for your telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which a genuine Sky agent should) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it's likely to be a scam call.

Re: Call from Sky about changing package

I know numbers can be spoofed but no one is going to go to those lengths for a number that the vast majority of Sky subscribers wouldn't even be familiar with.

I've had some scammer who then did spoof HMRC's number but only after he had called on some unknown one, because I was messing him around for fun to waste his time.

Yes, they do...  (We've had people google it and then get a false sense of security as it appears 'legit')

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers
