Bonkers!

I cancelled my Sky account with the mandated notice period because they were going to put my Broadband and Sky TV bill up substantially, even though they noted I was a 'loyal Silver customer'.  I've since got a much faster package with Vodafone.  My contrract ended today, but they've charged me 52 quid for next month...

I used used the help service and they said it would take over 2 weeks (29 Aug) and I would need to ring them to initiate the refund.

This just seems so wrong, especially as I gave the mandated notice period.

Billing continues through a notice period. Bills for Sky+, Sky Q and Broadband /Talk are generated 14 days prior to a payment date. For Mobile, Glass and Stream it's 3 days before the payment date.

It's therefore quite normal that another bill payment will be required. Of course any overpayment will be reimbursed to you. This can take up to 6 weeks from your last day of connection.

Re: Bonkers!

thanks! Understand the policy, but if this happens to everyone that cancels, Sky must be making a decent amount of interest each month, so sense it's deliberate.  I'm sure in 2026 there is a better way of ending contracts, but regardless, this experience has done nothing to make me ever want to go back to Sky.  Appreciate the response.

Looking at it differently, bills being generated 14 days before a payment date gives customers plenty of time to check the bill online and if necessary contact Sky to query it. The bill you've just paid was generated when you were still a paying customer.
