When did you receive that email ?
Did you make a manual payment ?
Do you have a credit/debit card or a direct debit setup on your account ?
Are you sure the email is from Sky and not a scam one, so does it have a link it it that says it goes to your account and does it address you by saying "Dear User" or similar ?

Are you sure it went out of your bank on this date or was it the date you paid it as what has probably happened here is for some reason the direct debit wasn't taken so that is why you have been sent this email explaining that they will try again in 10 days time to pay it. As this is the case there was no need for you to pay it which is why the payment you made has gone on your account as a credit as Sky will still try to take the bill on that 10th day after the failure first time around.
Regarding the credit, you can either leave it so it will be used to pay next months bill or you can have it refunded back to you, help of which can be arranged via here once the direct debit has been taken.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreAs I said, Sky will still take the £9.50 then the bill will be paid.
The £9.50 you paid that you didn't need to is on your account as a credit so will be used to pay next months bill so nothing should be taken via the direct debit. Or you can have it refunded back you once Sky has taken the direct debit for it.

Which is what the email said would happen, the "10 days later".

You would need to ask your bank about this as it might be that you have another bill due out as well so there might not be enough to pay the Sky one.
