Hi, I want to cancel my sky tv and I find it very difficult to do this. Online or in my sky there are lots of options to upgrade and order new products but to try and cancel or downgrade is almost impossible or at the very least extremely difficult. Firstly the online chat is useless. Then trying to find a number to call or an email address is like looking for a needle in a haystack. I finally got a number and after being on hold for 20 minutes the advisor told me I needed to call another number which he gave to me regarding cancellations. Having called this number and being put on hold again (currently 40 minutes up to now) I thought I would contact sky community to see if someone could help?

I am sorry to hear that you have issues cancelling your Sky account. What @Daniel0210 advised is correct, and you can find more information about Broadband cancellation here:
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/cancel-sky-broadband
If you need to call and already have a Sky Mobile or a Sky Talk landline call free by dialling 150, otherwise you can use:
https://www.sky.com/help/home
UK customers: Scroll down and click on ‘Need more help’ and it provides a 0333 number.
ROI customers: change the flag in the bottom right corner of the link to the ROI flag then scroll down and click on ‘Need more help’ and it provides a 0818 number.
In case you would prefer to make a formal complaint, you can find all the information about it on the sky.com website:

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreFirstly, Sky don't use email for communication or cancellations. To remove all of your TV subscription, if you’re out of contract you’ll need to give Sky the required 31 days notice. Be aware that the latest T’s and C’s explicitly state you can’t cancel when still in a minimum term deal unless Sky agree. If they do you’ll have to pay the remainder of your discounted term.
Select ‘Need more help’ at the bottom of the following link which will lead to contact details.
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/cancel-sky-tv#contact-leave
(Make sure the flag in the bottom right corner is the correct one ie; UK or ROI).
UK customer ~ The link may include an email link and also a Message Us option (which is normally available between 9am and 7.30pm).
ROI customer ~ it’s only by calling Sky Ireland or writing in.
If you cancel correctly you should receive a confirmation email from Sky.
If you’re cancelling Sky Q totally don’t forget to keep you proof of posting indefinitely when you return the box(es). Return packaging will be sent out towards the end of your notice period.

Currently being subjected to the same thing and currently on the 40 minute call. Everything as decribed by yourself. I called one number got told I'd have to call another number spoken to a 2nd person, before being transferred and put on hold for 40 minutes at the moment to retensions/cancelation. This demonstrates sky are purposefully making it dificult to cancel for customer. Their coverage and service quality is poor too.

Same here, extremely frustrating. I'm considering making a complaint to the watchdog.

Same here - really difficult to cancel.
Also - I had sky tv, broadband and phone. When I cancelled last month, it transpired that they only cancelled the tv and I was now billed for phone and broadband at higher rate for one month (as I'm no longer in a package deal!).
Now have to go through the cumbersome and arduous process again..

Sky Broadband and Sky Talk
~ To cancel totally, or if you’re moving to a provider like Virgin Media or City Fibre etc who don’t use the Openreach set up, you'll have to contact Sky and give the required notice of 14 days. This link may help https://www.sky.com/help/articles/cancel-sky-broadband
If you are changing to another provider who also uses the Openreach infrastructure then join up with them and they should contact Sky on your behalf.
You’ll need to return any loaned router to Sky, so it’s important you get proof of posting and keep it indefinitely. Return packaging will be sent out to you near the end of the notice period.

I'm now trying to complain (and on hold again)
They purposefully cancelled only one product of my three - be aware when you cancel that they definitely cancel all your products!

I gave up calling or using their chat. I wrote to them using an old fashioned letter. After about 2 weeks, they called me twice and then sent an email saying they had closed the case.....yep unbelievable. I called them and they cancelled the service immediately based on the date of the letter. I had signed up to Sky Stream, with a 30 day rolling contract. They made it almost impossible to cancel, all the did was insist I moved to a cheaper package. There should be a simple button on their website that allows you to cancel, like every other streaming service. Lets me honest, SkyTV is becoming less relevant every day againts todays smart TV's and streaming content you can subscribe to. I will never be going back to Sky for anything.

I tried that, they could only downgrade my package not cancel it.

I don't understand that. The only reason why Sky would refuse to allow you to cancel is if you're in a contractual minimum term.

I'm currently going through the same thing. It's so frustrating! I first spoke online with them 21st November to complain about what I'm paying. Since 5th January I've asked them repeatedly to cancel & still no joy.
Does anyone know who I would complain to? Is it ComReg?
