The problem using these links it prompts you to sign in to your a your account first which if you have two stage verification enabled, the code is being sent to a number that the op has no longer access too. As even turning of two stage verification off involves access to the account the only way the phone number can changed is by using the recovery code procedure first.

@DaveDrizen thats not a problem though. Every service I use that utilises MFA ( including Sky's one) has a recovery code/process to follow which allows access to be granted in that exact situation where you no access to your phone number to get the code. Equally for services that allow the use of an Authenticator app rather than phone number, also has a recovery process for the situation you have lost your phone ( or perhaps moved to a new one and hadn't transfered the Authenticator app data across).

I have two step verification on my Sky account and yes when you set up it gives you a recovery code that you have to take down and keep it in safe place in case you need it. If you lose it or can't remember where you put it the only other option is to contact Sky and get get lifted there end.
