When I press the wifi button on the router and then the sky+ box, there is no amber light on the sky+ box indicating that it has not connected to the wifi network. So I cannot access ondemand servces etc. This has been working for 4 years. Perhaps the sky+ box needs to be replaced.

The other way to set it up is to coonect it manually by getting the box to search for your Wifi connection and then enter the password when it finds it so have you tried this ?
