As far as I know I have never agreed to 2 step verification on my emails but now every time I log in to my email account I have to run around and find a mobile phone which has a 6 digit number on it and put it in the box provided. I am presuming that this is 2 step verification but I can't seem to find a place to cancel it as I never requested it in the first place. Any ideas?

When you activate 2 step verification you're prompted to make a note of the Recovery Code which allows you to turn it off again should you choose to. The Recovery Code is also sent to your email address.
There appears to be no way of turning off two step verification without the Recovery Code. .

You must have signed up to it as it can't be actiavted otherwise so when you did this you were given a recovery code so if you didn't make a note of it then check the email you were also sent.
To turn off 2FA sign in with the recovery code so at the login select "can't sign in with the code" link. You'll then be asked for the recovery code.
