Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box

Sky are launching a broadband only service with no need for a dish by Xmas in the UK. Unlike the German Service it will feature 4k and a recording facility via the cloud.

HD comes as basic, UHD is £5.00 a month, Multi screen is £10 a month, Cinema £11.00, £25 Sky Sports.

The basic package is £26 a month which includes netflix.

The box is being tested is the Xfinity X1 which Comcast use in America.

Sky Staff are currently testing to determine what broadband speed customers require, it will only be avaialble to Sky Broadband customers initially.

The search function will work on all included apps, DAZN to be available at launch and full versions of ITV hub and Demand 4

And where did you come across this information?

Most of the information was published in a newspaper this week. The only additional info seems to be that the Sky IP service will will use the Xfinity X1 box, but that's no surprise. Whether it will be the Arris or Pace box is unclear, although not significant.

I wasn't aware that any news had been released. I know some one at sky who is testing. Apparently the box isn't even badged as sky at the moment. It is an infinity X1 box. Apparently works like a dream. The person in question gets 40mb broadband and is receiving 4K

It's a 4 year old UHD 4K box from 2017, but maybe updated for the UK market.

Good luck to any company trying to launch a new mass-market product that relies on computer chips at the moment!

I am just another Sky customer!

They are using existing tech, I don't see a shortage of chips being an issue.
