Will Alan Partridge's Dream Come True?

Coming soon to ITV, Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters.

We are now only 18 months away from Monkey Tennis. And two years away from Celebrity Monkey Tennis. A-HA!

As The Guardian put it:

" Now, if this sounds at all familiar to you, it might be because you’re old enough to remember the show ITV made to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Jaws. That show was entitled Celebrity Shark Bait, and it saw Richard E Grant, Amy Nuttall and others being gently lowered into shark-infested waters. And it wasn’t very good, to the point that at times it felt like a thorough scientific experiment to make the least interesting shark-based TV programme possible. The jeopardy was minimal. The celebrity reactions were muted. The shark footage wasn’t particularly spectacular. When it was broadcast, the Manchester Evening News called it “the biggest waste of time of them all”. "

  @TimmyBGood I don't remember that show, but it does sound quite funny. Re: "The jeopardy was minimal. " Were they perhaps hoping for a Matt Hooper moment with the shark cage? 😲🐋

Re: Will Alan Partridge's Dream Come True?

  In case anyone is wondering what this thread is about, check the screenshot that explains it. For a change, I have actually heard of most of the celebrities involved.

  And if you don't know about Monkey Tennis, go to YouTube & search Alan Partridge Monkey Tennis. I would have posted the video on here, but there is a bit of swearing, so probably wouldn't have got past the filter.

I saw a trailer for this over the weekend and my first thoughts were whatever next, are ITV really that desperate for viewers.

  @caesarome  I think we know what's next, & it's only 18 months away. 🐒🎾

Book (died) or film (survived)?

Oops, probably should have added a spoiler tag, or maybe half a century is long enough ; )

  @TimmyBGood  Now, I'd hate to see a celebrity eaten by a shark for our amusement, but I meant specifically the part where the shark crushes the side of the cage & makes its way in. That would make good TV. I'm guessing the celebrities involved either haven't seen Jaws or they have, but have forgotten that moment.

Re: Will Alan Partridge's Dream Come True?

  A humorous sidenote to all this: At the end of the " Monkey Tennis " pitch by Alan Partridge, when all the programme ideas he's offered have been turned down by the man from the BBC, he starts to lose it & says in a weird voice, " Who do you think you are? ". Monkey Tennis was pitched in 1997. Seven years later, the first episode of Who Do You Think You Are aired.

  Having said that, I reckon some of Alan's other ideas that day have been pitched for real since then.

I'm sure Channel 5 might try to outdo them with a 'Royals in Sharks' special or something similar.

Pitch it as 'Ex-Royals in Sharks' and Netflix will give a couple in California at least one season...
