Where are the old black and white classic movies on sky

I have recently subscribed to Sky TV, but wading through all the wonderful singing dancing content, I have tried in vain to locate a channel that includes or specifies old/classic (more than 30 years e.g) movies.  Like Talklng Pictures or Turner Class Movies. I am an older person so would like to be able to watch some stuff from my youth.

@Rochcc

Talking Pictures doesn't have carriage on Glass/Stream (we think because as a famously small operation it only acquires broadcast and not Video On Demand rights to its content) and as @Timelord2018 indicates, TCM ceased broadcasting to the UK on July 6th 2023 as part of the ongoing corporate turmoil within WBD, and only continued in the US after an outcry and support from Hollywood royalty.

@Rochcc It depends which Sky TV service you subscribed to. Not all of the traditional satelliete broadcast channels on available on the Sky streaming platform, if that is what you have subscribed to.

Not sure if you mean the Sky Cinema channels specifically.
I do not subscribe to those, so not sure.

Through all the other available channels on your Sky box, your best bet for older films across the genres is;
Talking Pictures, Legend, Legend Xtra, Great Movies (under its many channels) and  5 Action.
Plus Thats TV, though mostly older classic TV series, does have the occasional classic film.

Always worth using the Sky remote voice search for a particular actor like saying 'Charlton Heston, Gary Cooper, Vivienne Leigh etc

Also, worth checking the free Roku app (in the apps section) on your Sky box, it has many classic films across the genres.

Warner Bros Discovery shut down TCM in the UK last year.

Thank you. That helps.
I used to watch talking movies a lot on freeview.  Can I get Freeview on Sky?

No. Freeview is a completely different TV service, unconnected to Sky. If your TV has an aerial attached to it and a Freeview tuner built in then you may be able to receive the service. It is free after all.

Talking Pictures is on Sky (satellite) 328 but is not available on the Glass/Stream service.

Sky have very few old movies full stop. Their data obviously suggesting their viewers don't want them in sufficient numbers. Talking picture is by far the best option and one of two reasons I haven't got Sky Stream. Who could do without Cellar Club with Caroline Munro on a Friday night?

Re: Where are the old black and white classic movies on sky

Thank you all, for sharing your knowledge.  I obviously didn't check this out before signing up to Sky stream. Too late now I'm stuck for 18 months. However, I may be able to find some d classics on Prine or Netflix.

I do have another TV without Sky too.  It's just nice to watch the old movies sometimes, when the World was in my view, a lot nicer. 😊

Worth noting that having Stream doesn't prevent accessing Freeview or Freesat, it just doesn't facilitate it.

Freeview reception should be available through an aerial, although which specific channels can be viewed depends on what's carried by the local Freeview multiplex (our repeater mast only carries PSB channels 1-5).  Freesat requires a dish signal and a satellite tuner.

  @Rochcc  I'm guessing you have Prime Video, in which case you can definitely find what you're looking for there. I have been reading a wonderful book called Hollywood & it's given me a hankering to watch old films from the 30s, 40s & 50s. I used the search function for actors such as Audrey Hepburn, Lana Turner, Jean Harlow, Hedy Lamarr & Claudette Colbert & the directors Billy Wilder & Frank Capra. I managed to find a good selection. Some are free as part of Prime but the majority cost £3.49 to rent. Whilst searching, I also noticed a lot of other old films available which you may like. Don't bother looking on Netflix though. If you subscribe to AppleTV+, they also have a very good catalogue of old films to rent or buy.

  @Rochcc  Another place to look is on Film4. They start at 11 am each day & the first three or four films are generally oldies.

Although note that 'Playlisting' on Stream (it isn't Recording) does require the channel to have rights to distribute like that, which isn't always the case.
