Do they really,.thought blurays died a death years ago.
I assume they've done their sums and are happier with the profit margin on relatively small (but global) sales of laminated plastic platters rather than tiny slivers of streaming subscriptions.
GoT is the same (even though S1-3 weren't even captured in 4K)

Fortunately the Blu-rays for GoT are very good and HBO actually included Dolby Atmos Sountracks from S5 onwards on the ordinary blu-rays and not just on the UHD versions
(BTW Although I don't have the other Series in UHD , I did get the final, S8, on UHD which is very good in DV and definitely helps see details in the shadows of this notoriously dark (picture wise) series)

Probably does add a few more bucks to their profits.
Wonder though how the shareholders can justify it these days environmentally. Their greed hurts.
I'm no environmentalist, but do my bit when I can. Adding even more plastic to me is just a NoNo
Quality I like, but sometimes price, convenience and the modern world 'minimilist' house look wins.
@nigea99
Good to here that they are making an effort on quality.
On HBO, they have never produced the best quality pq wise, but have provided via Sky plenty of good content. I'm sure any upscale will look a tad better.
Hoping the rumours that House of Dragons is a good UHD mix. and we get it on Sky.

I think we've established that this is very unlikely.
Sky would be in a stronger position to negotiate with HBO to try and get permission for a UHD release if it weren't well documented that leadership at WarnerMedia see the current deal as being hugely restrictive to their expansion into streaming, and appear to regret it exists at all.

100% agree. As soon as those first few bars of Enter Sandman started I grinned like a maniac. Genius.

I have subtitles on, so it alerted me that it's Metallica. That's 2 recent shows doing their music. Stranger Things S4 finale is the other one. Btw it was a good episode. think Ramin is closing onto Hans Zimmer

I wouldn't be 100% certain about that - a few weeks ago Foxtel in Australia announced that they will be showing HOTD in 4K...
https://www.mediaweek.com.au/house-of-the-dragon-to-exclusively-premiere-on-foxtel-in-4k-ultra-hd/
Obviously that doesn't mean it's a certainty over here but does indicate there is a 4K master available to distribution partners - and I find it hard to imagine Sky didn't attempt to carve out some 4K availability in the most recent deal - It likely stands to reason HBO wouldn't want to make it available to their 3rd party partners before they can make it available on their own platforms.
If we do finally get HBO in 4K, I will not be shocked if HOTD is the first.

@lettice You'd hate our living room then. Not only do we have a blu-ray dvd player, we also have cupboards of dvds...just bought hubby 2 special editions of Doctor who blu-ray lol.
Streaming is ok, until the internet goes down 😁

Now the reason why I ended up on this page, does anyone know why I can only watch series 4 eps 1-4 on sky and not 5-8?
Not amused at all and if its going to be a while before its back, its too early to watch it again to remind myself of all the things I didn't get the first time lol.
