Why is it asking me to upgrade my package to be able to watch programs that have been on freeview. Ch5

You are probably seeing this message for one or two possible reasons, you are trying to view HD content when you don't have the HD pack on your account or you are on an old package that doesn't give access to Sky boxsets.

Channel 5 is a bit odd in that you can watch the channel live in HD for free but to be able to download & watch in HD you need the HD add on.
If you don't have the HD add on & have SKY Q then :
As the default download quality is set to HD (high Definition) not SD then when you try to download and watch you are prompted to upgrade (i.e. take out the HD subscription)
You, probably, just need to change your download preference to SD
Main Menu -> Settings -> Setup -> Preferences
(Please note this setting can only be set on the Main box)
