The revival ofMock The Week has been a big success for TLC. They have just commissioned a bonus 5 episodes to run this summer ahead of a full new series in Autumn.
I think that's a little different though, that a UK show that's been revived. So UK audiences would have knowledge of it already, and a viewership would have already been established. It was shown on BBC Two originally where it aired for 17 years (2005-2022). So Mock the Week is more like The Simpsons on Sky One, BBC Two and Channel 4/E4, it's well established.
I think if every episodes of SNL (US) was shown for (e.g.) the last 10-20 years over here (like how The Simpsons is established here), I think the viewing figures for terrestrial TV/on-demand/catch-up would be much higher for SNL UK, and the SNL brand would be already established here. But SNL (US) has been only shown here for the last few years, I don't think that's enough time to establish a brand.
Additionally, and a little off-note, Sky One now, is not and never will be Sky One again. I will always see it as a rebrand of Sky Max. They could've kept Sky Max as Sky One Max to keep the Sky One brand, but they've already killed it off, or at the absolute least, used Sky One as a FAST channel to keep it, like they did with Pick (Pick Paranormal/Monkey Rescue).Expect it technically is of course
it just rebranded back,
Having seen when Sky Max trademark was originally applied for (January 2021), I suspect it was new Comcast management at Sky that ultimately wanted to do it in first place
I also remember the words "reset" getting used
I mean it in the way of what was Sky One before it closed is gone. Whether Sky Max renamed to something like "Satellite Television" (Sky One's original name), it will always just be a rebrand of Sky Max. Sky One is gone, it's dead, buried and mourned.

How i'd largely describe their 3 entertainment channels (excluding movies and and Sport that is shown)
Sky One - Sci-Fi/Supernatural/Horror action, sitcoms, Stand Up Comedy, and Unscripted
Sky Witness - Home of US procedural drama (crime, medical or legal)
Sky Atlantic ' home of high end drama, thrillers and occasional comedy drama.

Re: UK not connecting with Saturday Night Live UK?
For what it's worth, SNL UK was good, but hit-and-miss, just as SNL USA is. When these shows are bad, they are pitiful. But when they are great , they are fantastic comedy skits. The problem is, in my view, that most people want immediate hits all the time. No one wants to wait to see if a show works or not. It has to be an immediate hit!
Broadcasters seem to still expect every TV show to be an overnight success with millions of people watching it, despite this rarely ever happening in 21st Century Britain, as nearly everyone records stuff rather than watching it live, and viewers don't stick with any show that doesn't immediately chime with them.
Those of us who DID stick with SNL UK through all of its First Series, saw the show improve, and actually produce some very funny moments. But as has been evidenced in this thread, many of you simply didn't stick with it. In fact, some of you barely stuck with it for even a single episode.
No wonder TV broadcasters are so fickle, when viewers are too.

And presumably rather more never started because it's a format which just doesn't appeal to them.

For those questioning the success of the show, the BBC has an interesting article up looking at the first season and does include the all-important social media views metrics, which do seem quite impressive https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cj0p7q080yno

Or, other things are simply a higher priority and time* is precious. A myriad of reasons.
(*NB Not scheduling, which is separate to the "watch/don't watch" decision. Nothing is watched live in this house, except for some sport. Everything is watched at the time of our choosing, not the broadcaster's choosing)
