@SlenderRobertThe issue is they are not really broadcasting 4K just HD. The 4K could and should be done correctly. The HLG was designed for broadcasting but on demand they should of chosen a different HDR and Dolby Vision should of been the choice for a so called premium company.
Sky as they keep claiming to be a so called premium company are not so premium and just feel cheep and tacky and over charge for it. The American streamers are doing it correctly content in 23.976 (calling for an end to that) 24 and 25fps and sky need to course correct and it's about time sky do it right like they do with the on demand and streaming side of things.
I am more leaning towards just using a VPN and getting HBO MAX for a superior quality experience they sky are just failing to provide (correct fps is premium, wrong fps is not premium) and a proper premium hdr experience but with sky we seem to get shafted with crappy sky quality and why I would like to see sky no longer involved in US content.

I don't think they're really bothered about little old me and my VPN. They get their subscription fee and I get the content I want so everybody wins! 😁

Second episode watched via on demand on Sky Stream puck had both 4K HDR & Atmos sound. The first episode, watched again immediately prior, still had 'vanilla' Dolby Digital Plus.
Checked via Denon Atmos 5.1.2 AVR with sound output from the puck set to pass through.
THAT sequence in the second episode had some first class sound design! Not to mention it all looked fantastic in 4K HDR; loved that they've used much of the same colour palette from the game environments.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreThe Sky Q HDR episode 1 is now in Atmos and also the HDR picture seems to be better. It looked like the original UHD/HLG version was an upscaled HD version like Sky do on the Sky Sports Main Event UHD channel.
EDIT: The Dolby Atmos mix is incredible.

I'm not a gamer and of course I know that this series is based on the game. Do you need to have played the game in order to understand and enjoy this series?
26 Jan 2023 08:21 AM
@Grilly No, no need to have any familiarity with the game. None whatsoever.
Neither my wife or son have played the game and they are both following along and are gripped. Personally speaking, I envy them: assuming the plot of the show continues to follow the game as closely as it has so far, I'll know what is coming up and they get to enjoy the surprises & revelations.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreI think having played the games is almost a spoiler - you understand a little more about some of the nuances but the show doesn't require it at all.
I think they'll have a lot more people pick up the game off the back of this and that's a good thing because it's an absolute masterpiece.
