I'm not aware that the Media Act deals with subscriptions at all.  There are however some changes introduced by the Digital Markets, Competition & Consumers Act which will impact Sky, primarily the insistence that service signed up to online must also be cancellable that way.

I can't remember the specifics right now but basically you'll struggle to find anyone who signed up to an 18 month or 24 month streaming TV contract with Sky, cancelled it outside the cooling off period, and was charged any form of early termination fee.

Sky fully understand that many customers and their home broadband network can struggle with Sky Stream and will allow cancellation to occur with 31 days notice. They also fully understand that the service provided is perhaps not always as advertised.

It's common sense that a service which cannot be maintained at a certain level by either party - customer or service provider - should have the ability to be terminated with 31 days notice.

Can I please ask what consideration in the future means? How long will we have to wait - another year or 2. I wonder if Customers have a case for being missold a product as we are all clearly not getting the service we were promised. I for one  cannot wait for my contract to end, this is costing me a fortune.

Please be aware that if you are on a streaming TV contract of longer than 12 months not fully paid for in advance, then you can cancel it, penalty free, with just 31 days notice. The recent Media Bill which passed through Parliament in July permits this.
Sky have already allowed many customers on 18 & 24 month contracts to leave without penalty.

@Mister_Dalek

That's not at all correct.

Firstly, the subscription contract part of the bill you refer to doesn't come into effect until 2026 at the earliest.

Secondly, and more importantly, the bill isn't intended to allow anybody and everybody to cancel services as and when they please. If you enter a contract, you will need to see that contract out. If it's agreeable by the service provider to let you out of the contract, early termination fees will apply as now.

The bill intends to further strengthen existing measures, including much clearer pre-contract information that includes price rises and ways to cancel, reminders before a free trial or discounted period ends and, probably the most significant for Sky - termination rights that will make it much easier to cancel a service, including prominent online cancellation options. If providing written notice, you would no longer need to endure a call from Sky with the hard sell; they would be mandated to issue an immediate end of contract notice and setting about the final bill and/or refund of any sums due.

and it's the Digital Markets, Competition & Consumers Act rather than the Media Act ; )

I believe nothing will actually happen with regards to subscription renewal/cancellation until the Competition & Markets Authority have gone through the inevitable industry consultation, so 2026 is probably optimistic.

I'm actually at the US Open and just walked past Gigi Salmon. It took all my strength to not go over and vent about the rubbish Sky tennis coverage!

Re: Sky sports+ tennis

You should have it's marketed wrong and misleading! We subscribed for 22 a month then they change the deal sneakily in August 💩💩💩💩💩

Re: Sky sports+ tennis

I paid to get the Sky Sports coverage via Now TV and while it's fine if you can stay up all night and sleep between 8am and 4pm, it's totally hopeless for those wanting to catch up on the night matches the following day. It's taking up to 48 hours for replays to appear, and many matches aren't shown at all! It's totally hopeless and Lexus should be ashamed of putting their name to it... last year was even worse. Let's hope coverage in 2025 reverts to Amazon Prime or Eurosport!

Re: Sky sports+ tennis

They won't, Amazon didn't bid for it and Sky have a 5 year deal starting 2024! I'm glad I read this forum post before I imtended to sign up.

Re: Sky sports+ tennis

They're doing UK tennis fans no favours at all....I certainly won't be wasting my money on it next year. Would rather see no matches at all than be continually frustrated by the lack of replays on offer.
All very sad.

The tennis stopped on all my devices just as the ladies final finished. No chance to see the closing ceremony 😡

For the world tours, the rights owners* only offered a long term contract, which they can do because it's their product.  Amazon chose not to try and renew their previous deal, and Eurosport either wasn't interested or couldn't bid enough.  For the US Open, Sky has three more years of UK rights from the USTA.

Re: Sky sports+ tennis

The Davis cup on BBC IPlayer is so much better than the freezing and pixelating junk that all tennis fans experience on sky sports + oh plus there's the option to watch from start.

sky really needs to up their game

Re: Sky sports+ tennis

Sky Sports should make Sky Tennis replays available on the catch up.

At least for 48 hours.

It's diabolical and  unfortunate that with the technology available and a service that is offered on other streaming services, that Sky Sports Tennis is lagging so behind.

Really very disappointing that replays of completed Tennis matches are not available.

Really poor service.

Sky sports Tennis, surely, you can do better than this.

Poor service for your customers.
