Sky Q loosing HD channels why?

Hi guys I read a article claiming Sky Q is loosing some HD channels but SD ones remain? I understand it is most likely BBC Studios who made the decision but also a Sky History Channel is also loosing its HD slot? Why are they closing down HD Channels isn't it going backwards? Is it to save satellite bandwidth/Slots or a money saving thing as no one's watching them? thanks

Re: Sky Q loosing HD channels why?

I think it's just to save money on satellite transmission The channels are still on Sky Glass/Stream and Virgin Media.

Note that despite its UK/RoI branding, 'Sky History' is not a regular Sky channel: it's a joint venture with A&E (now Hearst) Networks and effectively operated by them rather than Sky.

And yes, it's likely to be a decision largely based on budget vs audience figures because broadcasting an HD channel from orbit costs several million pounds a year just in satellite data transit fees.

Re: Sky Q loosing HD channels why?

They are doing the same as other broadcasters in Europe are trying.

By closing down the hd channels they are trying to force users to switch to sky glass streaming because these channels will be available on streaming.

Well I live rural and I cannot get enough Internet speed to run sky glass and there are many many more in the same position as myself.

Sky charges extra for hd and uhd so will we see the charges being lowered? Not on your life will we see that.

The only thing this will encourage me to do when my contract is up is to dump sky altogether.

Sky don't give a dam if you cannot get fast Internet or have no Internet at all you are the minority and at their mercy.

And Sky itself has relied on satellites which it has never owned or operated that are due to reach their end of life around the turn of the decade.  It appears that the Comcast Corporation (owners of Sky Group since 2018 and historically a cable television company) sees the future of media distribution in streaming rather than broadcast, as, frankly, does the rest of the industry.

@weetko er.. they're not HD variants on Sky channels that are closing......Sky have no control over what other channel owners do.
