Show the live football match, not replays, subs bench, managers, crowds etc

I watched tonight’s Man City v Chelsea football match on Sky Sports. Or, at least, I wanted to watch the game.

I think I saw most of it, but not all.

That was because I had to watch what someone had decided was more interesting than watching the game as it was played live.

Can someone tell me why you need to show replays, the subs bench, managers, close ups of players or something other than the live game as it is happening?

I lost count of the number of times that the ball was clearly in play and yet you were still showing a replay or something other than the game.

Why do you do this? I pay Sky to watch live football, as it happens.

I look forward to your response.

I think you should email viewer relations at viewerR@sky.uk as this is mainly customer to customer forum

It's all in the eyes of the programme director and what they see as editorially important for us to see. There will be production guidelines, of course, but what we see on screen is down to the director.

I do admit though that they were slow and it is frustrating hearing the crowd reacting to something when you're watching a replay of something else.

At least Sky don't switch to adverts during play like ITV has done more than once in the past. Small blessings.

Actually have to agree with you.
Last nights match was poorly produced throughout the match.

Think the EFL cup matches are not actually produced by the normal Sky Sports footbal production team and they tend to use freelance commentators, not the usual Sky ones.

@lettice

They produce their own Carabao Cup matches and use their regular commentators - usually the Premier League crew.

The only matches they don't produce are the red button Championship matches.

Since my original post, I mailed the ‘Viewer Relations’ at Sky.

The response is; quote ‘we have provided you Sky's stance on this matter and have nothing further to add’ unquote.

So basically, this is how we do things, this is our ‘stance’ and we aren’t really interested in what our customers think.

I won’t be renewing my subscription.

Sounds odd response, did they say what the stance is they provided?

Re: Show the live football match, not replays, subs bench, managers, crowds etc

Sky response (stance) is below. Nothing more than ‘tick box’ excercise to say they have responded.

Sky Sports always seek to find the right balance between live play and
providing viewers with replays of relevant action. Our Match Directors
always try to pick appropriate moments to insert these replays, but

very

occasionally they may lead to the start of another incident being
missed.
We would like to thank you for taking the time to contact us to share
your feedback, which has been passed onto the relevant team within Sky
Sports. As ever, they will look to use it as part of Sky's continuous
work to improve our match coverage and the viewing experience for our
customers.

I pay a premium to watch 'live sport' so how do I claim a refund to compensate me for missing live action that I should be entitled to view?

@Antol Actully you don't, you pay to gain access to the content Sky provides.

You really aren't missing much action, in fact it's very rare for any action to be missed by a replay.

Believe me as a season ticket holder to a PL club there is A LOT of time in matches where the ball is out of play and absolutely nothing is going on. The televisual experience at least fills these "dead air" moments for example where it takes a team well over a minute to walk over to the corner flag to and then a further 20-30 seconds to actually take a corner.

The replays are useful as well at times to at least see what has happened from a different angle/perspective which really adds to the experience. One of the big issues with attending games live is the lack of replays on things like "debatable fouls" or "yellow cards" which can make is hard to understand certain decisions.

Try watching an American Football match in real time ; )

It's essentially a three hour beer & snacks consumption event intermittently interrupted by some sport...
