I love watching darts but can't be in to watch the live action so always have series linked recordings setup. Once again, watching the grand slam of darts but the semi finals didn't record, I guess that they were not shown on Sky Sports Arena but were broadcast on another channel. This is really frustration and is not the first time it has happened.

Yeah unfortunately a downside of series recording but there is a valid reason why it works that way.
lets say you series link a show that is first shown one channel and then by the time the show gets to season 3 or 4 the first season starts to broadcast on another channel. The series recording would start getting confused and trying to record the older seasons on the other channel is it now being shown hence the reason the series record is a per programme per channel thing.
i agree it does suck and is really the reason that for sky sports Sky need to commit to a channel to show an entire sporting event and to not more it around between sky sports mix, arena or sport specific channels they sometimes create.

I understand you're response but if the 'episodes' are tagged with a series number and episode number, it's not beyond computer programming to search all of sky for 'higher' series/episode numbers.
I agree with your point about consistency in scheduling but also think the programmers have missed an opportunity.
thanks for replying

Agreed, although i could be wrong but i don't think sporting content it tagged live a TV shows with seasons/episodes mainly because most sporting contents happened within one show and a couple hours.
Whereas things like Darts or Nineball pool (which is treated in the same way). Run over multiple sessions across multiple days and due to scheduling of other sports gets pushed around between the sports channels.
I actually think this isn't an issue if you were on Sky Glass/Stream, as they do index/tag programmes so the cross channel issue doesn't become an issue at all. I gather Sky were probably aware of this limitation for years within the Sky+ and Sky Q platforms and found a way to resolve the problem on the new platform. Its very possible that the older technlogy that is based in Sky+ and Sky Q and the way the EPG works if just isn't possible to fix.
