I took out the Sky Essential TV package because it included Discovery+ and I know previously tennis grand slam tournaments have been shown on Discovery+,  I am so disappointed today at the start of the first of the Grand Slams since I took out the package, that if I want to see the Paris Open I have to pay a further subscription to TNT Sports.  I feel as though I have been scammed!

That's because back in February 2025 Warner Brothers Discovery announced the closure of Eurosports in the UK and decided to move all the content to their Premium TNT Sporte channels, as a result you need to subscribe to TNT Sports/Discovery + Premium to view the tennis.

Actually it's more the rights holders fault. Live sporting rights is very expensive, the cost of purchasing rights has been increasing for years and is still increasing which ultimately means one broadcaster cannot purchase all the rights for one sport. In addition the broadcasters are having to charge increasing amounts to watch the sports due to the rights constantly increasing.

Sky hasn't had French Open rights for more than two decades: this was on Eurosport, which was never a Sky-owned channel.

Because the tournament owners are so keen to give away event coverage for nothing?

Sky Sports Tennis Fans watching French Open

For Sky Sports Tennis Fans

Any tips on how to access TNT sports to watch French Open? It tells me both in my app and on my TV I need to pay £31 to access TNT Sports. I only want it for 2 weeks to watch French Open. I already pay a £20/month Sky Sports Tennis Subscription. I love tennis and looking to see if anyone has negotiated TNT cheaper with Sky.
Thanks

Guessing by your username, you might be in Ireland.

Unfortunately, the Discovery plus Premium sports subscription is not available in Ireland.

The only options are what is on the linear tnt sports channel and red button

Hi All

Just a note to any BT broadband customers, you can get a discounted rolling contract to the Discover+ app which includes TNT premium sports for £20 per month:-

TNT Sports on discovery+
1 month rolling contract

All 4 TNT Sports channels with a discovery+ Premium (incl. TNT Sports) subscription

£ 20 a month

If you log into the Discovery+ app on SKY with your BT log in you will be able to watch from there.

Re: Roland Garros 2025

We  signed to sky sports last April to follow tennis tournaments and  we asked if all mayor tournaments were covered as it is the only sport we like to watch. It would have been so easy for them to mention Roland Garros is not covered if they were honest. What a rip off.

@Lobshot

Sky only has rights to the US Open.

TNT has France and Australia, and (fairly famously) Wimbledon is still on the BBC.

As with Test Match cricket series, Grand Slam tennis coverage is negotiated separately to the rest of the national and international circuit because historically the events are under different ownership, so the contract Sky has for worldwide ATP & WTA coverage doesn't apply.

Re: Roland Garros 2025

That's not the point. The point is that we were miss-sold by Sky who told us on the phone they covered all the Grand Slams. Obviously we should have researched more fully but that is what they "sold" to us on the phone when we were offered the package. First we tried to buy just the tennis package as we're not interested in football etc, but he said if we got all of sky sports then we'd definitely be covered for all the major tennis tournaments, and when we listed Roland Garros etc he said yes

@caca_de-la123  you have learnt a valuable lesson never believe a salesperson , there job is to get sales and will say what the customer wants to hear in order to get the sale even if the information isn't necessarily accurate

There's an ambiguity in wording, perhaps: with a TNT subscription / Discovery+ upgrade and BBC availability all the Grand Slams are indeed 'covered' on current Sky hardware.

Some advisors just get things wrong, though: that's inevitable given the scale of the support/sales operation and the nature of such work.

Doesn't suprise me with Sky , they knew beforehand WBD was going to close Eurosport when current carriage agreements ended and still promoted Eurosport only in January in 24 month contracts.
