If the engineer was there, their job is to make it work or call back to their manager/office/Sky to resolve the issue. To come to no resolution or instructions on what to do next seems incredibly odd to me.
If you're using Sky+HD, Sky Q or Sky Stream, did the engineer swap out the box to see if it works with a new one, or troubleshoot it?
I know it's a silly question, but I'm adding it to cover all bases, but did you try changing the volume on your TV remote?
Did the engineer give you a follow up on what to do?
Note: If you're using a Sky+ or Sky Digibox (the SD only boxes), these are now obsolete and you will need to contact Sky for a free upgrade to Sky Q.

This has happened before on Sky Stream due to a software update according to https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-Stream/Why-has-my-Sky-Steam-Puck-lost-sound/m-p/4546772

It might be worth a try to open an app on the tv (not through your sky box) like netflix, disney plus, youtube etc) and see if the sound works there.
If it does, check if it has returned to your sky box.
It worked for me.

It's likely Sky Stream as OP said

I understand, but I was just sharing what helped me when I had similar issue 3 weeks ago. Maybe it might help them. It might not, but no harm in trying.
For me, it took 1 minute to do, and involved no rooting with cables (which as a person with a physical disability, it can be very awkward and It would always make me nervous that I might break something)
