Football, golf, tennis, skateboarding, rock / wall climbing amongst others. I know we have to move with the times, but one doesn't change world cups etc
If I had to choose a highlight this year, it would have to be team GB in the ladies 4 in the rowing winning at the line. The mixed relay in the athletics is a good idea. Have also loved the equestrian, and now the indoor cycling
Well done again to the coverage from discovery plus and Eurosport. What a great advert you guys have produced and thank you to Sky for being able to have it all, particularly discovery plus premium. This is channel is far better than the alternative
Personally i don't see why the sports that already have major world championships or bigger events than the Olympics are even in the Olympics. I've always felt the soul of the Olympics are in the sports where the Olympics is the pinnacle event for the sport and helps grow the sport. I'd prefer to see the end of sports like football, tennis etc ( and certainly not the inclusion of Cricket) in the Olympics.
I'm in favour of the newer more modern sports like skateboarding and climbing being in the Olympics as these are the types of activities that a lot of the younger generation like doing in their spare time and will only help grow these sports. The Olympics does need to keep itself relevant and ensure growing sports are included to help build these more fringe sports up.

As usual the weightlifting coverage was terrible. It's been like this for a few years now, the directors clearly have no knowledge of the sport, all of those "artistic" shots just ruin it.
One woman got red lighted yesterday and the commentators couldn't even tell us why until the third replay. If we'd had the proper frontal shot we would have seen it straight away.
Was also very annoying to have BBC and Eurosport showing the same two events more often than not. I ended up watching several things on pirate YouTube channels.
I agree with Mark above, some sports like football either shouldn't be in the Olympics or they should be different versions like 5 a side football, and the hockey could be 20 minutes instead of an hour. On the good side though I did enjoy the surfing.

I don't think fans of hockey would agree with you.

I'm a fan of volleyball and I agree with me. I watched the full tournament at the Tokyo games and as a result I saw nothing else except half an hour of rowing. Stuff like football, hockey, golf etc is on all day every day, the games should be a showcase for a bit of everything.

Hockey probably should be in the Olympics as the olympics is likely the biggest tournament for hockey players and it provides the biggest viewership for the sport, giving it a chance a grow.

But that was your choice to watch the volleyball and not watch other stuff.
I don't think Field hockey really gets a lot of tv coverage outside of the Olympics. The only time I really hear about it other than the olympics itself, is the context of qualifying for the Olympics for the Irish teams

So everybody is happy that team GB secured more medals than Tokyo, finishing with 65 medals. Right?
Er, no actually.
From the nadir of Atlanta 1996, when Steve Redgrave and co secured a soliary gold medal, lottery funding has propelled Great Britain to the top table of world sport. In London in 2012, the number of gold medals (29) was the largest of all time.
Since then, however, the trend has been downward. GB won 27 in Rio, 22 in the beleaguered Tokyo games and just 14 in Paris. So, despite the impressive list below, cracks are emerging in the edifice.
Never has a country endured so many near misses at a games than this GB squad. Is this due to sheer bad luck, or is it poor judgement, a lack of ruthlessness or that the preparationand conditioning was a mere couple of fractions short of perfection?
It has been admitted that work has to be done ahead of Los Angeles in 2028. Yet the BOA and UK Sport face significant pressures as the next cycle begins.
UK Sport is facing a funding shortage and any help by the Government may not be as extensive as in the past. Rachel Reeves has put the country on notice that her budget at the end of October will contain tough decisions as she attempts to fill the £22billion black hole.
For all that sporting success helps the national mood and brakes our emotional seal, the cost of living crisis has not gone away. If voters were given the stark choice between continued Olympic success and reducing NHS waiting lists, the answer is almost certainly the latter.
It is highly likely that not so many are playing the lottery now, which adds to the mix of uncertainty that team GB faces. What the public wishes to see are poisitive results and silver being the new gold may be tolerated for only so long.
With Keely Hodgkinson only 26 in four years time, Emma Finucane 25, Sky Brown 20 and Tony Roberts also up for his second games, not all is doom and gloom. However, Tom Daley has departed the scene and Adam Peaty is unlikely to be far behind. British Olympic Sport is facing a period of potenetially difficult transition.
Indeed, my best memories of these games are provided by outstanding non British individuals. Novak Djokovic now has every right to become the GOAT, Noah Lyles last gasp capture of the 100metres was for the ages. Simone Biles goes on any short list, yet it was the final day which provided the single most outstanding performance.
Having taken bronze on the track in the 10,000m and silver in the 5,000m, Sifan Hassan found the strength and resilience to win the greatest ever women's marathon after a protracted battle with four other athletes. It was only in the final 2km that the race broke up with Hassan not making the decisive kick until the final 300m.
Sheer triumph for endurance and the human spirit. Which epiomises the Olympic Games.
