Losing programmes to other channels

What's going on Sky? You've lost Greys anatomy to Disney +, also 911 I've just read and you have to pay for lionsgate + that you're advertising all over the tv.

I was on the last series of the walking dead and it went to Disney. Please use the money we're paying you to keep some good programmes (this is tongue in cheek but also really annoying).

There is nothing Sky can do about this as companies like Disney+ own this content so the likes of Sky and others like Virgin and BT have no say in it so what you want don't come into it I'm afraid because if you want to view this as other content then you do have to subscribe to such services as that is the world we live in now.

Disney want everything they own or have the rights to, to be on Disney+ rather than any other service. That includes Grey's Anatomy, 911 and The Walking Dead.

The future seems to be in individual studios launching their own streaming services like Disney+, Paramount+, Lionsgate+.

Sadly this is the world we are living in now, Disney have slowly been pulling all there content off Sky first it started with Disney and Fox Movies [Which is now fully complete] then it started with TV shows which is mostly complete now I think Simpsons is the only big Disney owned show left on Sky now that Grey's Anatomy and Station 19 have moved this month.

Paramount Plus is likely going to be the same situation with them wanting there content exclusivily on the app at the moment they are sharing it with Sky but how long that lasts is anyone's guess. Good example is Top Gun 2 isn't coming to Sky but going straight to Paramount Plus.

It would be perfectly fair to argue that Sky should be bringing the NBC content better to there platform seeing as that is content there owner does control.

Re: Losing programmes to other channels

This is so frustrating! Half the programmes I watch have now moved to Disney! I can't believe NCIS and Greys Anatomy have moved - I've watched both from the very beginning and now how to pay more to subscribe elsewhere to watch them! Sky is expensive as it is, not really sure its worth it now its losing so much content.

It's okay saying nothing Sky can do but it gets to the stage the £££ you spend every month having SKY TV gets less attractive, having to sign up for yet another streaming service kills the enjoyment.

The past 15 years have spent a small fortune end of-the-day streaming will kill off the sky concept.

Once a service stops being value for money then the most sensible thing to do is stop subscribing to that service, there is no point moaning as every broadcaster out there is going to want your money directly and miss out the middle man (Sky) It's just the way things are going

Even the SKY/NBCU thing isn't that cut and dried... they may have the same owner but they are still to all intents and purposes separate companies so Sky would still need to pay fees to NBCU and vice versa if an NBCU platform was licensing from Sky Studios. And I do  see why Sky might not want everything from NBCU... they're more inclined to keep building their own portfolio catering to their home markets rather than just becoming an identikit of the NBCU portfolio.

And I don't think it's been determined that Top Gun isn't coming to Sky... i suspect its likely going to arrive after a small window of Paramount exclusivity much like Scream did (and Sonic 2 and Lost City had the other way round)... more inclined to think we'll see it around 45 days or so after the Paramount Plus release.

Honestly I do understand Disney's strategy but I have a feeling we'll see them pivot on that within the next year or two with some of their tv content when it becomes apparent they're leaving money on the table whereas the likes of Paramount, Warner Bros & NBCU still seem happy to operate a healthy licensing business alongside their own propositions,

Re: Losing programmes to other channels

At least you aren't a Football fan. When we first got sky I think the cost was around £10pm to watch their football coverage. Now you have to pay Sky, BT Sport and Amazon prime to watch all the live English football! The cost of Sky and BT is well over £100pm.

Re: Losing programmes to other channels

Season 6 of Seal Team will apparently premiere on Paramount+ going forward rather than Sky, contact Paramount+ for more information rather than Sky, not that suprising since it still hasn't appeared despite the fact it has already finished  in November and no sign of coming to Sky in February either.
