We decided to watch Law & Order from the beginning as we didn't see it the first time around, but the episodes are all over the place, some missing, some wrongly named, some out of order, triggering of odd episodes.
Seasons 1 and 2 were shown at the same time so had to record as a mix of USA and USA+1.
USA+1 recordings in order:
S2, eps: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, 15, 22, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 17,
S2 ep 17 recorded on 25/01/24
Missing: Eps 8, 18-22
USA recordings in order:
S3 eps: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 12,
S4 eps: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 10, 12, 13,
S3 eps 20, 21, 22, S13 ep 15, S15 ep22
Missing: S3 eps 6, 11, 12
Current triggers scheduled in my planner: ☹️
S4 ep 1
S13 ep 16
Season 5 starts next week before season 4 is complete.

I wouldn't expect much help from Sky as its broadcast on 5USA , this is how they are broadcast daily., next Wednesday they are showing episodes from season 13 , season 15 & season 5 across 4 hours in the day

Yeah the scheduler for 5 USA 🤣. So ultimately someone who works for Paramount who own the channel 5 set or channels.

@alfa The reason several LAW & ORDER episodes are missing, is simply because many of them aren't suitable for daytime/pre-watershed transmission, and carry 15 certificates. As FiveUSA don't PIN encode their programming like Sky does, all pre-watershed content has to be suitable for daytime/children.
Many of the L&O early Seasons contained themes revolving around sex, drugs, murder, **bleep**, serial-killing, that renders them difficult to safely edit for daytime transmission, without destroying the integrity of the plot/episode.
That's why so many of the episodes are simply dropped in full.

@JonD1492I realise some episodes can't be shown because of their content, but these are a mess. An odd episode from another series suddenly appears and series link recordings stop. Then an older series starts again and that starts recording.
See S6 ep9 below showing details of S6 ep11. Go into S6 ep9 and see episodes s6 ep10 and S6 ep 11.
I emailed Sky who replied:
I would recommend contacting Channel 5 directly with your quesitons as we have no control over which episodes they choose to broadcast and when, and what they make available on their Catch Up service.
So I emailed viewer enquiries at Channel 5 on 8th Feb but they have not replied.

I hear and see what you are saying, but as the Sky rep said, the problem lies with Channel 5 sending Sky the wrong data about what episodes they are showing, and that is what ends-up being displayed on your Sky box.
ITV4 are the same with MAGNUM P.I. They frequently mislabel episodes, not only with wrong descriptions, wrong episode titles, or multiple different Season and Episode numbers. They just don't seem to care, so whilst I still watch and record the episodes, it does take me more time than it should to work out which ones I want to watch and work out if it's one I've not seen previously.
Sadly, if the TV channels supplying the info to Sky don't care whether it's accurate or not, there's not much Sky can do. It's not really Sky's job to check that data, though I would personally argue that it would be better that they did, and that would please viewers better. But what do we know? We're only viewers. And channels don't seem to care too much about viewers in 2024.

You're not alone trying to work out episodes. Most old series we rewatch are a mess, Stargate SG1 was really bad. Thank the stars for IMDB.
We pay Sky for a service, so they should check the content they put out.
You'd think after over 30 years, Sky was the Rolls Royce of TV viewing, but they've always held back giving us that perfect TV viewing experience which may be why platforms such as Disney are overtaking them and taking series off them.
I believe, because there are now so many platforms all trying to be protectionist with their content, the quality of TV series has suffered. Audiences are much smaller, so budgets are cut to keep costs down. And you're right, they don't care about viewers.
