How do I watch or record US Open evening matches on Sky Q without staying up all night.

Has anyone found a way to watch the US Open evening matches the next day? I can't believe we can only watch half the matches in the UK., what a joke Sky sport is for tennis lovers.

Welcome to Skys little known Time Travel channel.

It features functionality and programming that takes you back about ten or twenty years.

Back then it was called the red button, now its being dressed up as this fantastic new feature called  Sky Sports +

New name, but same end product.

So if you like nostalgia, you are in the right place.

That's simply incorrect: 'red button' sports coverage used additional satellite resources for each broadcast, and was therefore hugely limited by both capacity on the orbiting platforms and the associated significant incremental data cost (which is why the BBC moved 'red button' Wimbledon into iPlayer from 2023 onwards)

Sports+ is almost entirely delivered by internet, and, for example, permits multiple simultaneous football matches to be carried, which has never been possible before (supposedly every L1 and L2 fixture during the international breaks, for example)

Sky is undoubtedly failing to deliver on their promises for tennis coverage, but that's only peripherally related to Sports+ and mixing the two things up is an unnecessary complication.

You are describing differences in its delivery.

The end product, ie pressing a red button and very limited options is exactly the same surely?

No, my point is that Sports+ should be hugely more functional than red button sports coverage by satellite ever could be, from sheer capacity if nothing else.

Where it's currently failing badly is the absence of recording and/or on-demand viewing, in not transmitting complete individual fixtures, and, for some people, in unreliable or poor quality streams.

Unfortunately given the inevitable time difference for the US Open (and most of the rest of the global tennis circuit), there's a particular problem here, particularly when Sky was promising so much.

I agree, it absolutely should have more options and functionality, that is my point.

The fact the end result is a red button press and nothing you can do apart from watch something live, is what makes it feel like we have no progress in the last decade or two.

The underlying capacity is there.  One possible issue is legal rather than technical: broadcast content has always been recordable to a local hardware drive under a limited exemption to copywrite for time shifted viewing, but on-demand viewing requires the channel or platform owners to have acquired different rights.

@TimmyBGood  So your understanding is that Sky have chosen not to acquire the separate stand alone on demand rights and this is the only reason we are being short changed and not a technical one?

It's certainly plausible for the content shown on the linear channels as for some sports they broadcast catch-up replays are available on-demand.

However if speaking about the bonus streams on sky sports +, I would suspect that's more a technical ( and perhaps cost) issue as that content for any sport isn't available on catch-up.

Absolutely agree. Have just got Sky Stream and still getting used to it. Managed to resume watching Jack Draper semi final match  today which is the following morning (US Open) but no way could I see how to record the other semi final Fritz / Tiafoe which began after midnight. I know know the result . Thanks! This is despite setting Playlist for US Open . The Catch up feature does not seem to work either. It highlights catch up for a particular match eg Navarro v Sabalenka. then when you try to play it ,it shows a different one!! Crazy.

Another complaint. Sky will re show a match but not till 48 hours later...too late

I needed a new satellite dish on front of house to upgrade to Sky Q so chose Sky Stream instead. May have to reconsider.
