Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreEEtv and VirginMedia have Eurosport 3-9 in their EPGs - Eurosport 4K is only on VirginMedia.
There is no Olympics in 4K/HDR in the Discovery+ app either.
It is a really poor show from WBD - showing what they really think of sport.
I think the Eurosport extras is only because they had committed to them before they started their sport wind-down. I'd be glad if WBD could list some new high interest sports they have recently sign up with.
@Pat+Gleeson wrote:@On+the+coast. Especially since Virgin Media and EE in the UK have access to Eurosport 4K and the Eurosport 2-9 pop-up channels. As you rightly say, we are paying for UHD, we should be provided with a UHD channel for the Olympics.

Perhaps interesting that the WBD press release I linked to above is from January 2023, and they have been in pretty much continuous corporate chaos both before and since then.

Sky Group doesn't have any Olympics broadcast rights.
What Warner Bros Discovery Inc (Eurosport/Discovery+/TNT) chooses to do is up to them: they'd probably quite like to get some money back from what was presumably an extremely large investment in acquiring exclusive European coverage outside the limited free-to-air EBU contract for PSB channels. No doubt the IOC were also extremely happy about the deal too.
Indeed. However, Virgin have presumably come to some financial arrangement with WBD to provide UHD coverage to their regular subscribers whereas Sky have chosen not to, which is a kick in the teeth to those of us forking out for the UHD service. There is no technical reason why Sky cannot provide access to Eurosport UHD channels, so the reason must be financial.
However, I would agree that WBD are the problem here. Soulless corporate entity prioritising profit over innovation and quality. I do wonder if the IOC will be that pleased to discover that, having gone to the trouble of filming in UHD, the main rights holder is broadcasting the majority of its content using yesterday's technology.

Given WBC now has rights for LA and Brisbane too, I suspect the IOC just weighed the cheque.
It occurred to me that if a certain person gets elected in November, the last major event of his Presidency will be held in the People's Republic of California...

@Skymog Whilst it's true that Sky doesn't have any Olympics broadcast rights , Sky subscribers do receive Eurosport 4K for other events. Eurosport 4K was provided for Tokyo in 2021. There should have been a deal with all secondary rights holders and distributers to have a 4K channel provided.

All rather disappointing from Sky to be honest. Not sure why we can't get the UHD feed but I guess the main thing is we have access to all on the discovery plus app

It sure is a big disappointment.
But, yes the discovery+ many streams have been great for the Olympic coverage.
Be honest was not expecting the discovery+ app to work as well as it is.
The HD pq is good, commentary excellent. Just cannot fault any part of that.
Flicking through so many each day so far for hours on end, quickly without any issues all so easily from the Sky Stream live rail layout.
Good job really the cricket ended early, as had that on the iPad Sky Go, not paying a lot of attention as there was so much Olympic sport to watch today and so much for GB to cheer on.
Just been thinking.
Do hope the new Sky Sports+ app works as well, launching in just under two weeks...

@lettice I agree 100% what you said. I love the way it has a tab just for GB involvement .
Just out of interest, how do I know if I have it on HD on my stream on the app?

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Super+Anthony It would be HD by default on the D+ app on stream.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreIt is nothing to do with Sky - WBD have decided not to put them on Sky for one reason or another.
WBD have also decided not to put the HDR versions on Discovery+ yet they are available to them.
Contracts prevent BBC from providing the event on more than three channels snd no HDR.
WBD put the Eurosport 3-9 channels on EEtv (BTtv) - but not the 4K channel for some reason.
My view is that WBD don't actually care - ther are closing down Eurosport soon.

OK thank you for confirming @GD1

Was at my parents yesterday who have virgin media and Eurosport 4K looks glorious.
Sky feels cheap in comparison and I pay for a UHD pack, my parents pay nothing extra on virgin it's a pretty basic package.
I feel cheated, especially when I just switched from virgin myself.

The HDR versions are on Max in Europe apparently like France , I don’t think they care about Discovery+ rather than Eurosport which is being kept in Europe

They're on Peacock. Owned by Comcast. Who also own Sky.
