I think it is too early to know if Eurosport in UHD will be available.

Just because the limited early events have not been shown in UHD, it does not mean that later events won;t be

IIRC it wasn't until a day or two after the Opening Ceremony before t was available for the 2021 Olympics

Eurosport 4k

Is the Eurosport 4K channel not being used for the Olympics. Was expecting it to be on channel 906, like when the Australian Open is shown in 4k

Eurosport 4K is exclusive to VirginMedia in the UK - there are no HDR Olympic streams showing in Discovery+.top tier.

But it's up to Sky to broadcast the content provided by Eurosport, just like Virgin media have.

Looking at the discovery+ app it seems UHD on there is restricted to TNT Sports subscribers.

So still doubt we're going see anything unless you upgrade to TNT Sports, poor from Sky this.

I thought moving from Virgin to Sky I was getting a more quality product but it kinda feels like Sky just cba.

Re: Eurosport 4k no olympics?

So UHD is showing in discovery+ and it's asking for a TNT Subscription

The opening ceremony screen is just a none HDR standard HD stream of Eurosport 1

Looks like Sky have massively let us down here

According to Radio Times Olympic Special there will be nine Eurosport pop-up channels on Sky and a Eurosport 4K channel. I was hoping that the 4K channel would be activated in time for their opening ceremony programme.

Is there a good reason why, for the most part, only BBC One is being used to show the Olympics ( only when the news is on does it change over to BBC Two )? Why can't BBC Three and/or BBC Four be used?

Also, can anyone say who is likely to have the best 4K broadcast? I noticed the other day that Discovery+ will have the most coverage in 4K but I don't use that platform, is it any good? Will BBC iPlayer have 4K? I seem to recall using it for the last Olympics. Thanks.

@nigea99  Thanks for pointing out the link which helps with the second part of my post. Can anyone answer the first part though ( in bold above )?

Also, am I wrong in thinking that there was a lot of UHD coverage on iPlayer for the 2021 Olympics?

Could that be because bbc three are four are limited hour channels, and not 24 hours channels.

im guessing as well as a PSB the BBC also need to show content for those not remotely interested int he Olympics either.

Re: Eurosport 4k no olympics?

It's because bbc no longer hold the rights to coverage, effectively have to buy coverage of different events from Discovery.

They own all rights for Europe in a deal with the Olympic Games. Therefore the BBC show very limited coverage and no UHD, only way to watch UHD is subscription.

I'm not going to pretend I know how these things work but didn't BBC Three used to have kids programmes during the daytime ( CBeebies ? ) then switch to grown-up stuff at 7 pm? Now, it's only dead air during the day. I find it odd that they can't utilise that dead air time for the Olympics. For those not interested in sports, this would be a moot point if the Olympics were shown on BBC Three & Four until 7 pm.

Yeah , basically the slots BBC had get split so daytime viewing is split between CBBC and CBeebies and the evening is BBC Three and Four.

it's likely easier for scheduling to put it on channels that are available 24x7 and with the extra streams available on BBC iplayer there is probably little need to fill the schedules on the other channels.

@Mr+Ripley

BBC have done different things with their channels over the years - BBC 3 actually stopped as a linear channel for a while & I think there are (at least were) some plans to do likewise with BBC 4

It is all in the BBC hands - I think it would cost more to broadcast content via BBC 3 & BBC 4 before their current start times so this may be a big driver

The BBC have made a deliberate move not have additional red button channels that they have done in the past - they are now using iplayer as their go to.

Re: Eurosport 4k no olympics?

BBC has it in 4K on iPlayer too, 2 4K channels now, as TNT ultimate has it, if people have the subscription.
