Re: Closure of Eurosport channels 28/02/25

And TNT is Turner Network Television, nothing to do with Trump.

Re: Closure of Eurosport channels 28/02/25

the own the channel but the rights to the WINTER SPORTS are owned by the EUROPEAN BROADCASTING UNION - the point that everyone is missing is that it has gone from 40 hours A DAY of winter sports and cycling to 4 hours of mostly not live on Trump Network Tv - WHY ?

Why not have TNT 5 and 6 full time with that content ?

Me thinks that there is a BREXIT answer here that  TNT would have had to bid for UK rights as well as EUROPA rights and they did not want to

I am happy for anyone who wants to make a different point ...

@ZKTV Why not just wait until Eurosport closes and then see what TNT show. Then, if it's not to your liking, complain to WBD/TNT. It's out of Sky's hands what content providers choose to show.

The reason they rebranded as TNT Sports, is because that is a big sporting brand in America, so Warner Brothers Discovery, when taking ownership of BT Sports decided to rebrand it as TNT Sports. Quite likely because they have decided longer term that they would want TNT Sports to be their only global sports brand.

The history of this is that Turner Broadcasting merged with Time Warner back in 1996, and then later merged with Discovery (in 2022) to become Warner Brothers Discovery (WBD).

Personally it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if  by the end of this decade WDB had closed Eurosport all across Europe and replaced it with paid-for versions of TNT Sports. For a company that is massively in debt that, and in a TV market where live sport is practically the only big rights property that can make money with subscribers and advertisers it would make sense if they went down that route.

Re: Eurosport

Unfortunately you are correct, but quite a few events are free to air, particularly leading ones.

Keep your eye on BBC 2, 4 and ITV4.

As most of money flowing into wst is Saudi and Chinese, it might not be long before WST has to change it route to market!

the EU have rules to not allow companies like Trump Network Television to own all of a channel as that and sky are both 100 USA owned .so TNT is not a thing in Europa

Eurosport began life as part of Sky’s four-channel package in 1989. Initially a joint venture with the EBU, ownership later passed to TF1 following the launch of Sky Sports.

Re: Closure of Eurosport channels 28/02/25

I watched some World Open snooker on TNT.

It had the Eurosport commentator and in the break he was having to promote TNT and the live PL football.

Seems theres no sentiment in business.... out with the old without a backward glance. 😞

Yes. I have to agree. The close of Eurosport is nothing to do with Brexit, but it might as well be. Something that was formed by Europe replaced by the U.S. and like Brexit just too much monry for many of us to afford.

Re: Closure of Eurosport channels 28/02/25

So far. the two sports that have  been on the 4 T.N.T. Sports liner channels Biathlon and Snooker have run to time or under the schelduled programme time. T.N.T. Sports first big decision will be this Friday. T.N.T. Sports 1 will be covering the Women*s Downhill event in Kvitfjell,Norway. The running time is 9.15 a.m. until 11.30 a.m. If T.N.T. Sports 1 do not extend the sking if there is a delay and show the highlights of a repeat of the West Ham v Liecester City match then the complants will come. There will be breif highlights of some winter sports at night but not the cycling I believe.
