Re: Changes to the TV Guide - January 2026

That would most likely cause incitement as well, yes, but it was elevated to a higher standards or we will end up like Music channels and many had smaller audiences are doing way better than MTV, The Box, Trace then Spotlight TV which leaves 8.

@Yoghurt They have already closed - if you switch over to the channels its just broadcasting a message saying "This channel is now closed, you need to watch the main MTV instead"

Will the Now channels move up in place of the MTV (RIP) channels on January 6th with the main Now Channel getting pride of place on Ch350 or are you going to throw a curve ball and give the slot to Clubland? 🙂

Only in the UK. In Ireland, we now have no music channels on Sky.

Never thought I'd see the day when an entire genre on the EPG is empty, yet here we are. A sign of things to come.

I bet Comcast thought they'd bought a golden goose when they acquired BSkyB. Turns out all they got was an expensive rotting carcass.

The eight point six billion dollar write-down would probably suggest a degree of regret, as might the divestment of Germany, Austria and Switzerland at what looks like a remarkably low price.  The UK & RoI ISP and mobile businesses seem to be reasonably robust though, and some of the original content creation had been successful.

I guess the life lesson for us all is try not to get into a bidding war with Disney ; )

Edit: can't really blame the Comcast analysts for failing to predict a major ground war in Europe though: if that was in their skill-set they'd be working for the CIA...

(Note: For clarification: BSkyB was changed to Sky in 2001, and Comcast bought Sky and not BSkyB)

Well, it was in 2018, before COVID. Disney+ was really on the ball, as they launched in March 2020 (in UK & Ireland), literally at the start of COVID. So instead of streaming taking 5-10 years to fully become popular, it only took 1-2 years, as everyone was at home. The uptake for streaming would have been a lot longer. I would assume Sky had plans for 5-10 years to adapt to streaming and maybe are still doing it, so it feels like they're not as good as they once were.

The rename from BSkyB to Sky happened in 2014 when Sky bought its German/Italian sister companies.

Its common name was Sky since its analogue service ended in 2001 and it was advertised as "Sky". Genuinely didn't know they were BSkyB after that.
