Changes to the Sky TV guide - February 2024

I was thinking tennis and cricket, but everyone is different which is why setting up 'favourites' is ideal.

I deliberately put Sky Sports starting at 401 TNT at 411 & Premier at 421

ironically there is only about 27 or so unique Sports channels that figure may have changed since I last looked 

they need to do away with the dual channel number and put only the HD or SD on the EPG according to the sub you have. 
or just eliminate all the SD either way suits myself but that is obviously an individual decision

Presumably, TNT own slots 410 & 411.

AFAIK, everyone (on the same platform) sees the same EPG, I don't believe it's possible to tailor it to customers' subscriptions.

Yes, when they became tnt, they swapped epg places with eurosport.

401 to 414 are considered category a in terms of sports channels while 415 onwards is category c, then there are particular obligations on broadcasting depending on whether a station is category a, b, or c

Sky, TNT & Premier could, as the owners of all these slots have a chat and get the EPG in a logical order.

Subscribers would know that

Sky Sports starts at 401,

TNT Sports starts at 411 &

Premier Sports starts at 421

its a real shame that the Sports section from 410 is a real mess

In UK Sports is in HD as standard. Wouldn't expect the other SD Sports channels to be around much longer.

That's not what's happening: many channels, particularly those with small audiences, will remain in SD because it's cheaper for them to shift bits that way (and some are still in native SD anyway)

A particular legacy format for satellite transmission is being withdrawn which renders non-HD boxes that only use that format (which are now extremely old) effectively redundant.  HD boxes will continue to receive SD channels.

Following the lead set by Sky’s German division, Sky is reconfiguring some SD services to run on DVB-S2 transponders. This means that older DVB-S only receivers – i.e. the original generation Sky digiboxes and Sky+ boxes will cease to receive services.

Knowing that potential viewers don't have SD-only boxes still in use then clears the way for channels with simulcast in both formats to remove their SD service if they choose to do so, but that's a different process.

Ultimate TV already includes HD on Glass and Stream, which realistically are the Sky products which will be 'going forward' given the era of satellite television (in the UK at least) appears to be drawing to a close.

For Q (and legacy Sky+ HD) there would presumably be a commensurate increase in the price of the Signature / Ultimate TV subscription, as it's fairly unlikely Comcast stockholders would accept the alternative substantial loss of income (several million times c£8 per month being quite a lot of money: probably half a billion a year or thereabouts ; )

I note that with sky only launching new channels in hd in uk only then what happens when they launch a new entertainment channel are those that f us without the add going to lose out altogether? I can see sky applying the add on as a general price increase rise in the same they did for sky sports 

i acknowledge this will affect all customers on all sky satellite platforms but I can't see any other way around it for sky unless they are going to deny those without the add on completely of new channels
