Hi - sorry to be thick, but can someone explain what "smart swapped with nightlight at 101" means? If I want regional content in HD, do I always have to go to the 800s? What does the above mean?

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreThat means the regional HD channel should be at 101 once this has taken place in your region.

Don't ever call yourself "thick". You're not meant to know everything.
If we use Sky Showcase as an example.
If one has the HD pack, one will see Sky Showcase HD on channel 106 and Sky Showcase SD on channel 806. If one doesn't have the HD pack, one will see Sky Showcase SD on channel 106 and Sky Showcase HD on channel 806.
For Sky+HD and Sky Q devices; free-to-air HD channels like ITV HD, ITV2 HD, ITV3 HD, ITV4 HD will appear on channels 103, 118, 119 and 120 with or without the HD pack.
However, with older SD-only boxes like Sky+ and Sky Digiboxes, the SD versions will be on 103, 118, 119 and 120 instead with the HD versions in the 800s.
I hope this helps.

In regard to BBC channels, if you have a Sky+HD or Sky Q box, your local BBC HD channels will be on 101 and 102 with some local BBC One HD channels launching before the end of February.
However, if you have an older SD-only box, you will lose access to local BBC channels as BBC One SD is being phased out before the end of the month. The nightlight/network versions of BBC One and BBC Two will be on 101 and 102 instead.
BBC One (Nightlight), labelled as just "BBC One" is the London region with no local news. BBC Two (Network), labelled as just "BBC Two", is the England and Scotland version.
If you have an older-SD only box, you can contact Sky to get a free upgrade to Sky Q.

Brilliant, thank you for the explanation, really helpful. Pleased to hear we're getting regional BBC content in HD at last, years after ITV started it. Saves the 115 to 101 to 115 shuffle in the evenings ☺️

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreMost ITV regions only went HD on Sky at the end of 2020 - before then they had the wrong region.
Most BBC regions will still for SD news for some time - even after the HD switch.

With BBC One HD closing on 115, I would highly suspect 115 will be used for BBC Three in England and Wales when the BBC One HD regions are upgraded. This has already happened in Northern Ireland, where BBC Three was moved to 115 as BBC Two HD was previously there before BBC Two NI HD launched.
However, I don't know what Sky/BBC will do in Scotland as BBC Alba and BBC Scotland are on 115 and 117. As per Ofcom rules. the BBC/Sky have 18 months from launch to put BBC Three between 101 and 124. This date is 1 August 2023. So it must be moved before then. I would suspect Sky might put BBC Three on channel 108 to put the EPG similar to Wales with S4C/Channel 4.

for the regions where bbc one has updated to HD it's showing bbc one Hd at 101 and 115 instead of just at 101 but no bbc one SD

BBC One (Nightlight) SD should be on channel 801 (UK) /832 (Ireland).

Interesting. Will they be forced to bump Sky Atlantic further down the EPG then, or is that not on 108 at the moment for you?

I'm in Ireland, the Ireland EPG is different.
But in Wales, 104 is S4C and 108 is Channel 4. 108 to 115 were moved down one channel when Channel 4 moved to 108.
Sugar! I forgot about that with Wales. Currently 116 is BBC Four and 117 is BBC Three, they might swap them around.
