No, they're just temporary labels. One of the channels is labelled 7840, for example.

We know that all the premium sport and cinema channels are changing to DVB-S2 this month, but that new sports service doesn't start until August, so the timings match these being the changes to the existing channels.

I'm a bit puzzled. Currently, there aren't any sports channels on the EPG that are exclusively in SD, and the HD/UHD channels already utilise DVB-S2. The only channels exclusively using DVB-S are TNT Sports 6-10, Mosaic 1-2, and the non-online Sky Sports Active channels. It would seem unusual to prefix the new channels with "401" if they're not for Sky Sports.

Regarding the closure of the cinema SD channels, a customer received a letter in the discussion about "SD boxes to lose all Sky channels in August," which indicates which channels will only be available in HD, with their SD counterparts closing before August. This impacts those with Sky+HD and older boxes exclusively.

The official link provided in the letter is: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-channel-upgrade

All channels listed in the letter, except Movies24, Movies24+, Challenge, Colors Gujarati, Together, and Baby TV, are already available in HD and use DVB-S2.

The letter doesn't say the channels are closing, it says that users of non-HD boxes won't be able to receive them any more, because Sky are changing their own SD channels from DVB-S to DVB-S2, which the non-HD boxes can't handle. Several non-Sky SD channels have already changed. and it has no impact at all on Sky+HD users.

The changeover starts this month with Sky Sports, Cinema and MUTV, followed by the rest of Sky's channels later this year.

There are 4 SD movie channels and 9 SD sports channels affected by the DVB-S to DVB-S2 change.

Looking at tvchannellists, there were 4 channels added to that transponder on 2nd May and 9 on 8th May.. Strange how those numbers match the premium SD channels exactly....

That's actually incredibly disappointing.

Logically, would it not make sense to add low quality (e.g. SD) channels to an App on Sky Q, to act like a back-up for non-HD boxes and replacement for Sky SD channels? This would also benefit those with satellite issues. There's already the Sky Glass/Stream channels via Internet, so I'm sure this could be done.**

If satellite is truly dying, why should Sky need to fork out money to produce Sky Stream boxes and give them for free to customers in 2028 (similar to a free upgrade from Sky+HD to Sky Q when Sky+HD boxes became obsolete)? They could create a Sky Stream App to give customers a new Sky Stream box in 2028 when their contract with SES (satellite owner) is over?

Not only that, customers would have some use of Sky Stream (from the Sky Q app) when the change is inevitable, giving customers some knowledge of how to use it beforehand.

[ ** I got a bit confused here, and for some reason, I thought that Sky+HD and Sky Q boxes couldn't receive HD channels on DVB-S2 I realised it after I posted this.]

hi @Trips+out

I don'tr know but, personally, I don't think the SKY Sports+ app will be availablle as an app on SKY Q.

I think that, as now, extra content will be presented via the Red button  or direct from the Sports Rails

@Trips+out  it's likely to be a showcase channel showing the best of the extra content in the same way main event does with the existing linear channels but the linear plus channel will I assume only cover the extra content

Sky Sports+ On PC

When it launches in August, does anyone know if Sky Sports+ be accessible on a Windows PC via a web site or Windows App?

I currently use the Sky Go Windows App which is really good.

Thanks

Short answer is "no".

"Launching this August, Sky Sports+ will be transformational in the amount of choice sports fans will have access to via live streams on Sky TV, streaming service NOW and the improved Sky Sports App on mobile.
[...]
Live pause and rewind will be available on all concurrent streams, and the 'Recap' feature currently available for Premier League and Championship games will also be made available for EFL games shown on the Sky Sports+ linear channel."

The Sky Sports+ online channels will be available on:

  • Sky TV
  • NOW
  • Sky Sports mobile app

There will also be a Sky Sports+ linear channel. I would suspect this will  be used to showcase Sky Sports+. I also think it's a replacement for the current Sky Sports channels. It just feels like as if this is what Sky are doing.

Personally I don't read it as a no, although I acknowledge it could be read that way by the reference to just mobile

I think the current Sports App (which is available on PCs)  will be improved &  my guess is that it  will continue to work on PCs

Of course, I could be wrong but this is my take
