I'm sure this'll be of interest to a lot of people:
When I say free, I mean at no extra cost on top of whatever you pay for Sky Sports already obvs....

They must be feeling left out. Apple TV+, Disney+, Channel 4+, Discovery+, etc.... if in doubt, add a plus.

Looks great. It looks like another streaming channel / app. After all this is the future. Streaming will at some stage replace TV

Hang on a minute, isn't that what Sky Sports Main Event is.. 🤔

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreThis was always going to be launching around August for the start of the new EFL broadcasting rights Sky have.
Good to see they have announced it quite early though with several months notice, as it will save on people asking the question all summer about how to watch all the extra EFL games 😀.
Will be interesting to see how it ramps up in the longer term future with additional sports rights other than those listed

Sky+ isn't mentioned as a platform, and the intended interactive/on-demand features being heavily promoted aren't ideal for that legacy system: a significant percentage of remaining HD boxes have never been connected to the internet.

Worth noting that there's no mention at all about resolution in this press release, so it's possible that it'll be limited to HD on the live streams via the Sports+ app, so it's easier for all platforms to access it, and the live channel only might get UHD if available. Just speculation. I'm sure they'd be shouting about UHD if they planned to carry it, but so far they're not.

Well Main Event is designed as a showcase for the existing Sky sports linear channels, so i'm guessing the linear + channel will be a showcase stream from the Sky Sport + platform.

The linear broadcast channel should be. The extra bits showing the dozens of other games via broadband, probably not. In much the same way that you can't view the extra feeds on Sky Sports Tennis.
