Wireless phones with Fibre Gigafast router

Dear all

New to Sky Broadband / Gigafast / Full Fibre – moved to our new apartment ast month away from another longtime full fibre connection.

The building was wired for FTTP earlier this year.

So the OpenReach engineers installed a fibre connection box in the flat and connected a router.

Thanks to WPS my gear [2x Macs, Sky Stream, internet radio and printer] all works just fine.

Now I want to add phones. [The mobile networks here are all very patchy]

Website My Products shows there is a phone number on the account, complete with local area code.

I want a desk phone and one or two cordless handsets.

Does the base unit for the cordless have to be plugged in to the router?

What about a desk phone?

Any issues?

Any suggested products to consider / avoid?

TIA

Ken

What about a desk phone? if it doesn't share the same base unit, then yes, it also needs to be plugged into the Sky Hub.

Any issues? not an issue, but if you're planning to connect both the cordless base unit and a separate desk phone, you'll need a standard splitter

Any suggested products to consider / avoid? any standard analogue phone equipment should be fine. A VOIP phone, or one designed for BT/EE's Digital Voice won't work with Sky's landline service.

TIA

Re: Wireless phones with Fibre Gigafast router

Thanks, Mark

Another quick question for you and / or fellow members:

I read somewhere that the router mains lead had to be connected directly to a wall socket, not an extension lead. I need to connect some other kit – including the phone discussed above and the wireless security hub – but there are no more wall sockets.

If the "connect directly" message is to stop acceidntal disruption to the power, supply, I'm thinking of rhis as a solution: a 4-way extension which is wall-mounted, fed by a 1.5m cable securely clipped to the skirting with a security tape pm the plug into the wall socket.

Does that solve the problem?

TIA

Ken

@Ken-Birkdale not to doubt what you've read elsewhere, but I don't know why the Hub would need to be directly connected to a wall socket, rather than an extension socket. My BT Hub has never been directly connected (maybe the reasons for requiring it to be directly connected are specific to Sky). Either way, I'd give it a try and see how you get on.

I suspect that was inserted by the lawyers to mitigate the risk of trip and fall claims.
